We have known mr Chai for many years. He used to be the owner of Old Lamp restaurant in Had Rin, Koh Phangan. When the rent of that property ran out he went to Koh Jum. Just after he finished building the first bungalows with his own hands the tsunami came and he lost everything. But didn't give up. Again...

The restaurant was closed as was the whole resort if you can call it that. Mr chai didn't get dressed the whole time we were there, rooms very basic and when we found out we could have stayed next door in a lovely clean and comfortable family room for only a 100 baht more a night we were a bit...

This place is very special. We stayed with Mr Chai for five days, and we loved it. He is just great, and his bread is as good as everyone else says it is. Rooms are great, though beds are hard, like most of Thailand. Yes, it's a shame the restaurant was closed, but there is a great little place next...

We couldn't have been happier with the high season price we were given (600b) for the great bungalows. Mr. Chai is such a kind man who will treat you like family. We were sad to have not experienced the food he used to do in the restaurant but he was kind enough to provide some free home made bread in...

we regret that we only stayed here for 2 nights. mr. chai the owner was very friendly - not only on the surface. we would have loved to get "the best breakfast on koh jum (as mentioned in another review)" but he had no staff this year and so there was no time for him to prepare it - hopefully...

Came for 2 days, stayed 10! Blissful beach, my lofty bungalow was only a hop away with a balcony facing the sea.. You couldn't get much closer really. Still had a nice screen of trees for privacy and shade though. Loved the rustic simplicity of the building and my open-air garden bathroom. Old Lamp was the perfect hideaway to unwind....

Run by Mr Chai and family who go out of their way to be helpful. Wide-ranging menu of Western and Thai dishes (expect slow service, but a nice view from the table!). Banana pancakes recommended for breakfast. Basic but clean rooms. Excellent value for money.

First of all I'd like to thank Mr. Chai for his patience during my booking, then help in leaving. I had difficulties to get there but it more than worth it! The place is wonderful! My bungalow was high on the hill which a bit of exercise, but got help with the luggage. The house is spacious with a huge...

We stayed at Old Lamp on Ko Jum Island. Mr. Chai and his son Jojo, and his wife who runs the kitchen and the boatman were very kind and helpful. It's a nice quiet place, good food and on the beach. It's surrounded by trees and the rooms are up from the beach. You can hear the ocean all the...
