We booked an apartment for five people in this hotel, two adults and three teenagers. When we arrived at the apartment it had only been prepared for 3 and it took several requests to have bedding, towels and coffee brought to the room for five. That said the apartment was modern and well equipped and the hotel was small but nicely developed blending a very old building with newer additions. The next morning we headed into breakfast and were asked by the owner/manager how many in our party. On replying five we were met with surprise and some concern given number of limitations due to Covid restrictions. Breakfast was excellent lots of choice and good quality food. Service was great - very helpful and welcoming. Overall a lovely boutique hotel in a beautiful town with lots to see and do however we didn’t feel welcomed as a group and it felt a constant battle to be recognised as a family of 5. …
We had an amazing weekend here. The hotel is perfect for a romantic stay. The room is a comfortable size with modern decor. The garden is gorgeous, the restaurant is top notch. We ate there the first night and immediately booked a table for the second night. We rented bikes (one regular which was free of charge and one brand new ebike - 15 euro for the day) and cycled the whole day in the mountains, villages and alongside the river. Breakfast in the garden was lovely with a big choice of warm and cold options. Highly recommended!
I just read some former critics and it makes me smile. Herr Hummel is a Personality but we loved his sense of humour and personal approach :-) He saved our first day by renting an excellent e-mountainbike (as my wife had a flat tyre) at a very decent price of 20 €. The rooms are very cosy. The hotel has a fantastic cool atmosphere. All the personnel is so friendly. And then came dinner ... If you still think Germany can't offer great cuisine, then just go to Die Reichsstadt! Frau Hummel was in charge of the dinner service and she too does her job with class and passion ... and the 2 sons too were extremely friendly. Oh yes, one of them told us Baden Baden is more fun for young people than old fashioned Gengenbach ... but wait untill he's a bit older :-) Sehr geehrte Familie Hummel, Ihr seid fantastisch ; hoffentlich bis bald! We stayed at the hotel ONE night on 28 June 2020, out on 29 June, but were charged for 2 nights. We had booked through booking.com and on check-out there was some confusion as they could not find the reservation. We paid for one night on check out. The credit card charged was for 2 nights. We emailed and called twice but without any results. If you don't mind paying twice and your complaints being ignored afterwards, then we can recommend the hotel. it makes for a very nice stay.
This hotel is first class,we spent xmas there this year and is was totally super, the rooms are super clean, good beds and pillows. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful with getting food ready for the 2 children. The owner of this hotel should be very proud of his staff, i could not fault anything.
