This was our second visit and as good as the first. Loads of character, which includes some of the bedrooms; some a bit small but very acceptable. Ideal location for views across the estuary and easy walks. Handy for the botanical gardens (probably under visited) and Port Sunlight with the excellent Lady Lever gallery. Food very acceptable with excellent breakfast....

Free parking which is a great start. The hotel looks really nice from outside in, and has great character. We stayed in room 19, which was lovely and big, and clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant, which was very good. Kids food was decent and our food was lovely. Great pie! Must have! The breakfast was quite good, maybe...

We visited last night for a meal with the inlaws The table was great and the atmosphere was lovely Food was ok but not amazing The fish and chips tasted better than it looked So to the attention needed- the wrong wine was brought, the service was slow, the dessert order was wrong, a side order was missing and the...

We had lunch outside and opted for the light bites. I had the fish and chips and others had the ploughmans and the shredded pork bap. The home made pork pies pastry didn't seem to be cooked through. Other than that I have no points to make. It's high time they stopped people smoking outside as this ruins the experience...

Big fan of this pub and go there regularly. Have a couple of criticisms which are very easily rectified - had an extorionately priced ham sandwich - lacklustre in flavour and came with no sides which for the price I would have expected an accompaniment other than salad. Secondly, the chips are inconsistent. On several occasions (including today) I have...

Decided on a beautiful sunny day to take my elderly father out for early evening meal. We picked The Ship as it looks over The Dee to Wales and on a sunny evening is in a perfect position. Unfortunately the eating experience was not as good as the view. We had Fish & Chips and Steak. You cant go wrong...

I really don't understand why restaurants charge extra for vegetables. I had hake which was nicely cooked, however, it was served with refried, reheated, new potatoes which looked as if they had been cooked the day before. This was accompanied by Heswall?? samphire. There was a little sauce. On the whole a disappointing plate of mainly fish and potatoes which...

Came here on Easter Sunday for lunch, once again service and food was top notch, all our meals were piping hot, which is a must for me, nothing too much trouble, i.e. Getting a highchair then getting a cushion because my grandson kept slipping down, great place for good customer service and excellent food

My wife and I travelled down from the North East for our friend's wedding. This hotel wasn't far from the venue in Thornton so we decided we'd stop here. The drive up to the hotel is beautiful. The town is really nice with some strange yet beautiful features. The buildings are all old but well-maintained, full of character and no...

This time (a 2 day stay with a colleague) I got a much better impression than on my previous visit - see review. The service from all staff, but particularly the charming young lady who greeted us on arrival and also served breakfast, was great. My room (21) was comfortable and quiet and breakfasts were very tasty (delicious sausages!). The...
