This ancient creeky hotel in keeping with it's age is really quiet in hearing distance of the river while being surrounded by trees. WiFi is pretty non-existent. Sometimes was able to get an E data connection on mobile. Shower was hot with good pressure. Clean room Miglena, on reception was very polite and very helpful. Going beyond her call of duty when needed and helped sort out our problem. *Note: EXPECT TO PAY USING LOCAL CURRENCY. If booked via a site in EUR, the hotel will recalculate at a crazy rate. We lost eur15.
We arrived late at night. There was Limited English spoken but enough to get by. The rooms are Spartan but clean and the bathroom all works fine. Felt a little bit like The Shining’! No one was there it seemed. Restaurant was shut but 50m up was another perfect spot. The balconies all have views of majestic pine clad mountains towering above. Lovely to wake up to.
We arrived at 1pm for lunch to be seated outdoors. It took 15 min for the waitress to pay us attention. We ordered four items that would normally be served together. Then we waited. In 15 min, one soup arrived. In another 15 min some french fries. In the meantime we watched people arriving at neighbouring tables, ordering, and receiving their food. In some 20 minute second soup arrived. It was an hour since we had entered the restaurant. The other clients paid and left. We waited. At 70 min we managed to catch the attention of the waitress to inquire of the status of our order. She said she will check. At 90 minutes we called for the manager. She arrived to tell us to not make fuss. No apologies or any consideration for the customer. We were treated rudely. We paid for what we had consumed so far and left. Will most certainly never come anywhere close to this restaurant again. It is particularly unfortunate, however, that is is an establishment that has quasi monopolistic position at Rila Monastery, a major tourist destination in Bulgaria. Places like this leave major disappointment both with the Monastery and the country at large. Will never return.…
Very basic but very very clean. Good views from the balcony. Very quiet place. Very convenient hotel to visit the Rila Monastery, 50 meters from the back entrance. Good enough for one night stay in the area. Breakfast not included is served in a nearby restaurant. No wi-fi available. Free parking, no need to reserve.
My enormous room with a large bathroom had a balcony that faced a solid wall of green mountain--the mountain isn't that high, but I was so close I had to turn my neck all the way upward to see the top; the only sound was the torrential sound of the rushing stream at the bottom of the valley. NO NOISE--no radio, no tv, no music, no cars, no motors, nada--just me and Mother Nature. HEAVEN! Not even a TV in the room (but a huge one in the lobby). Location is behind the monastery and past the restaurants--3 minute walk. Paths and a road or two go through the woods. In September no breakfast at the hotel, but the only restaurant that was open was adequete--hardly gourmet, but they have the best grilled trout on earth, delicious as easy to peel off the bone. Had it 3 times out of 4 visits. The staff (the college-age lady at reception) was extremely friendly and helpful. She let me keep the room until 2:30 p.m., since there were few customers the next day and the bus back to Sofia left at 3:00 p.m.…
