Staying in a hotel with so much history is definitely a privilege and we were very happy to find this gem of a hotel when we were planning our trip. The castle is just as imposing as it looks in the photos and has the most beautiful view of the village and countryside. What makes it even more magical are the deer running around and feeding in the grounds below the castle. I understand it has a very good restaurant, but, unfortunately, when we stayed it was closed due to summer holidays. Luckily, there was a little country inn just near the entrance to the castle so we had a good meal anyway. Our biggest mistake was that we chose a standard room. We normally go for superior but the rates of the hotel are quite high and as we were only staying for a stopover (1 night), we unfortunately chose the standard which was a very small room on the top floor, with small windows and a slanting ceiling which I have come to hate. It makes me feel claustrophobic when it's just above my head. Sleeping in such a room, of course, did not make us feel like kings, as one other reviewer writes. So, if you do choose to stay in this authentic, wonderful castle, I highly recommend that you pay that extra amount to get a front room, on a lower floor. The view from one of those rooms must be spectacular. Breakfast was good and the sitting area very pleasant. There 's also lovely sitting spots all around the castle. The one thing I found strange are the very limited reception times and the fact that one can check in only after 4pm. When one is driving from far, from early morning, having to wait till 4p to check in seems somewhat unreasonable to me. Other than that, we highly recommend a stay and, with it, of course, a drive to Rothenburg ob de Tauber which is very close by.

Our family (2 adults and 2 college age kids) stayed at the Colmberg Castle in December as part of a family trip. The entire experience was delightful and we highly recommend both staying overnight as well as eating in the restaurant. The staff was warm, professional and accommodating. Our dinner upon arrival one cold dark evening was delicious. I am vegetarian and had the vegan special listed for that evening that was scrumptious. My husband and kids all had great meals as well, including venison shot on property and prepared in house. The Bavarian beer made on the premises really hit the spot. Likewise, the included breakfast the following morning was great. Lots of variety, fresh juices, fruits, meats, cheeses & breads, which is hosted in a glassed in area overlooking the hills, property and town below. While our kids' room was fairly ordinary (no windows they said), we slept in a more expensive upgraded room with a window seat, modern bath & large bed with luxurious sheets. Recommend the latter option. You won't be disappointed!

Our daughter got married June 2024 at the Burg Colmberg. We had over 100 guests from all over the world. Everything went smoothly from the check in to the event itself. Staff did awesome job taking care of the guests while chef was proudly serving his food at the buffet. Champagne and Appetizer reception on the Terrace with the gorgeous view of the town was spectacular. Everyone loved the food and the hospitality they have received during the entire weekend. Our rooms were perfect. I do wish that the Sundays breakfast buffet was served until 11 am and not 10am, but we made it work for an additional charge. Huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts all the way from across the ocean. Family A

Wonderful hotel and restaurant. We first stayed here in 2018 and enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned. The rooms are cosy and have cool historic features and the restaurant served very tasty food. We have eaten there four times and each time was delicious. The staff is very friendly and accommodating also. We will return again.

My family and I stayed yesterday, 7/21/2022, at the castle. We rented three historical rooms with my wife and I in the Burgherr room. The castle is really great with excellent views and a delicious restaurant. We had a thunderstorm come that night and kept the window open with the wind flowing through the room, which was great and very cooling given the summer heat of the day. My wife could not sleep because she said she had a weird feeling, but I went to sleep very quickly. I had read about the White Lady in some previous reviews, but had NOT told my wife about her since I did not want her scared for the entire night. Sometime after 1 AM she saw a lady with long hair, just past her shoulders, and a white robe appear inside our room just in front of the window. She was looking downward with her side towards my wife so she could not see her face. She was there only for a second and then disappeared. Our door was locked and the window is barred and the window is also several stories off the ground. When she told me about this in the morning I was surprised how this matched the Weisse Frau legend. I then told her that the Weisse Frau had been seen there for a thousand years. I thought it was cool, but I got in trouble with her instead for not telling her the castle is haunted. Anyway, it was really cool and I definitely would love to stay there again. I added a picture of the window in front of which she appeared. The pictures is taken from the perspective of where my wife was sleeping. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place. The food is great and the staff are really nice.

Stayed one night at the cheapest rate. Fantastic place but a room with a view will be more expensive. At the price would have expected a little more luxury but the common areas are very attractive. Dinner was average & not up to the rest of the hotel. Note that the restaurant & breakfast hours are somewhat laid back so challenging if you need an early start or you arrive late. Probably best to use the hotel as a base for visiting the area but leave enough energy to climb up the steep hill.

We had visited Colmberg ten years ago and had had such a good experience, we wanted to come again. We were not disappointed. This a charming place off the beaten path from masses of tourist, yet close enough for easy visits to Ansbach and Rothenburg ob Tauber. It is located in an old castle overlooking the village of Colmberg. The rooms are clean, well appointed and authentic. The restaurant is excellent. We were served by Marius who did a great job recommending specialties of the house. The owner greeted us in the morning before a sumptuous breakfast. This was one of the highlights of our trip, and we highly recommend it.

An authentic medieval castle tastefully combined with modern amenities and excellent service. Stunning views with wild game freely roaming and Franconian villages in the distance. An excellent place to stay with kids! Medieval-style playground built right into the architecture sits adjacent to the restaurant, so kids can play before and after food arrives, while adults relax. Excellent foods feature wild game caught right on the castle grounds. 20 minute drive to magical Rothenburg, and the drive is beautiful. I wouldn’t hesitate. Book this! You won’t regret it. Ask for the Turmwachtersuite, which has two levels and one wall of actual exposed original stone castle wall and roof right in the room! It’s one of a kind.

Do not pass up the opportunity to stay a night or two at this castle with your family. We had the Tower Suite for our family of 5 and it was absolutely amazing!
Part of the castle wall is built into your room… access to a private castle wall walkway… top notch views… high quality beds/sheets… fruit tray… water bottles available… everything on point. Highly recommend!

Very quirky hotel. Our dogs were welcome. It really is like living in a castle with antique furniture and many persian rugs. Took quite a while for me to find our room, even after staying for two nights. One of our dogs is an excellent room finder irrespective of where we are staying. Only needs to be shown once so I followed her. Evening meal was very good, and there was a great outdoor area where we could sit and have a drink.

Not sure about in town, but you don’t want to miss the restaurant in the hotel. They served us in the courtyard outside upon request, and it was just delicious and great service. Really enjoyed our stay!

Our room at Hotel Burg Colmberg had a very nicely appointed modern feel and it did have a hair dryer. That was a good thing for us since my wife needed it and we did not have one that would work in Europe.
There are more places to choose from in the Colmberg area.
