We stayed here as a group of year 3 environmental students from Cardiff. I can imagine we occupied the majority of the hotel and they accommodated us well. Breakfast was buffet, usual continental type which was lovely. Dinner was also great, 3 course meals which were massive portions that accommodated for vegans and vegetarians in our group with prior knowledge to our arrival. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly even with the slight language barrier. We had our beds made and towels changed every day. On one evening one of the bulbs in our bathroom went and turned the electric off in our room. Within 5 minutes the staff had come up and checked our whole room then turned the electric back on. The only issue I had with the hotel was the noise and pillows. The hotel is very warm so you need to leave the balcony light on but the trams are very loud that run behind the hotel. The start at 6am and stop at 11pm. If you stay at the front of the hotel you have the noise of the road. Otherwise I enjoyed the hotel (not like we had a choice though) and was well suited for big groups.…
This hotel could be a good one. But the management is curiously disappointed that you are there and bothering them. The male manager was somewhat helpful...the lady manager was extremely unhappy that we were there...I mean she really seemed to be upset that we were there, interfering with her day.
We arrived in late April, when most hotels were closed. There was no one at the front desk. A sign told us to go to the restaurant. The "host" couldn't have been more rude. We asked about the room and he told us it was 130 Swiss Franks. There was no one there and it was off season. We asked about an off season rate and he told us we could leave. We actually stayed because we were tired and had been driving all day. The room was hot, overlooked the railroad tracks and was noisy. In the morning it was difficult to even find the man, to pay. The entire time we felt as if we were beneath him. If you can find somewhere else, do it!
Really noticed how clean our bathroom was. Looked new. Very insulated windows so no street noise. Hotel located right along street. Nice balcony. Checkout is WAY too early at 10am. In fact at checkin they just handed us the key without saying anything in English. That would have been a good time to tell us. We showed up at breakfast at 9:55am - no wonder they looked at us strangely. Of course we never noticed the HUGE sign on the back of the door saying checkout time. Whoops. Lots of flies at breakfast. Plenty of free parking. Very clean hotel (except flies) especially the bathrooms. Unlike all the Italian hotels we stayed in that were dirty with mildew. FREE interent in lobby.
This quaint hotel is convenient for those interested in heading to Zermatt. We checked in early (~9am) and, thankfully, the lady at the front desk spoke English (I only speak a few words of German). My husband and I headed to Tasch to take the train to Zermatt where we started our hike to Hohbalmen. By the time we got back to the hotel, we were both in much need of a hot shower...and the shower was great...excellent water pressure and the temperature never changed. Be sure to pack your own toiletries because none are provided. The onsite restaurant serves great dinners and also a free breakfast to hotel guests.
