Wow! That's what my teenage sons could not help saying over and over when I took them on a hike from Hotel Mittaghorn. What made this hotel so special is this is where their dad and I got engaged almost 25 years ago. The hotel is now as great as it was, with the owner Walter, now 90, as helpful...

That's no guarantee, of course, but it actually happened in our case, and that was one out of two mornings (a few cows graze on a plot right in front of the hotel). Hotel Mittaghorn is more like a rustic, quaint B&B, at a great value; there are zero amenities, so if you can't handle that, go up the valley...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in July, in a room with a balcony overlooking the Alps. When we wrote to them requesting rooms, we received a detailed email from the manager - Tim - setting clear expectations. He was true to his word, and we got a good idea of what the accommodation would be like....

Clean and simple, great location, spectacular views. We stayed two nights in Walter's Mittaghorn and couldn't have been more pleased. Tim (as Rick Steves says) was trusty--and trusting!--in managing our reservation (room 3, facing Jungfrau and overlooking the path from Murren to Gimmelwald), in taking care of breakfast, and in advising us on hikes. Really enjoyed conversing with Walter, owner...

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and loved it. Tim the manager was full of knowledge about the area and was very friendly. Tim gave us updates about the weather, tips on hiking trails, and booked us a paragliding trip. Don't book paragliding until you get there! Tim will do it for you, and it's weather dependent....

Hotel Mittaghorn is an old building that is truly rustic and charming. The views do not get better than this. We had room 2 on the second floor. During the day I could look out and see the mountains and hear the cowbells. At night I woke up and saw the stars twinkling over the mountains. We had a shower...

It was everything we hoped for in Gimmelwald. The manager Tim was VERY kind and helpful, we had great conversation and hiking with the other guests. It's certainly an old building, but the rustic feel and location was ideal.

Have been here four times over the past ten years. Always the highlight of any trip. Billion Dollar views, great dinner conversions with guests. This place has so much character! Walter, Tim and the late Rose-Marie always made me feel so welcomed here.

My favourite hotel during our euro-trip was definitely at Hotel Mittaghorn! Here are my reasons: 1) Beautiful Scenery - after a good night's sleep, we wake to up breathe-taking view of the snowy mountains. Note that we went in mid-September! 2) Hotel - clean, very comfortable, WiFi available, safe surroundings all around. It was a fun challenge to take and...

The hotel is very old, and probably needs some cleaning. There was a propane smell that was a bother. The beds not very comfortable, and it was dark and dank and kind of awkward being there. However, it is exciting just to get there by gondola, and the mountains are incredible in the Alps. I would do a day trip,...
