My husband and I stayed for one night in the ' moon' room with private bath. Everything was excellent. Even though the staff are not good at English they tried to find a staff who knew mandarin. Good was very delicious. The open private bath was marvelous and we could see stars ahead. Though it was a bit cold since...

First of all, I enjoyed my 3 day stay in this quirky hotel. Yes the lobby is dated, the bathroom seems to have tile from the 1950's, everything needs a bit of renovating, and the constant traditional Japanese music playing over the speakers really makes you feel you are in a Wes Anderson movie. But our room was large, the...

Since we could only travel on weekends, the rate is higher than weekdays. The Japanese style room was old but comfortable enough to have a good sleep. Attached bathroom looks old, better to use the hotel's onsen. Comes with buffet dinner and breakfast. Had lots of varieties to choose, more than anyone could try all. The restaurant staff were friendly...

It's located on the other side of the town on the seaside. A bit of a walk from the train station. The service was OK nothing to complain about. Our room has a private hot bath overlooking the beach and good view. Public baths are spacious with both indoor and outdoor.

This place failed in a major way before I even set foot in the hotel and unfortunately that set the ambience for the rest of our stay. I travel a lot and whilst I can and do stay in cheap places when on holiday for months at a time I also stay in expensive places regularly, especially for work and...

We made the trip down to Katsuura to get away from all the touristy mayhem around the main cities of Japan. This Ryokan-style hotel did the trick! We arrived on a Monday and were one of the few people there. We enjoyed the buffet dinner and breakfast which were really good and used the private bath outside, under the moon....

A gentle ten minute stroll from the train station and harbour - or a 600 yen taxi ride. Japanese style room. Lovely hot spring. Staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. Good advice on restaurants and visiting Nachi shrines and waterfall. A rural idyll.

Enjoyed our rooms. We had a traditional Japanese room with a futon for our bed. Our friends had a western style room. Both were nicely appointed. The outdoor private bath was truly wonderful. The dinners were elaborate and enjoyable. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The buffet breakfast was full of Japanese items, but not many western breakfast items...
