This hotel complex is located on a beautiful peninsula, only accessible by a small ferry. Two onsen baths are located in a cave and offer outstanding view over the sea. Unfortunately the fairy tale stops here. As soon as you get into the main lobby you realize that you must share this location with more than one thousand guests! Corridors... More

We stayed two nights. Be sure to state your preference for a non-smoking room if that's what you want. We were assigned a beautiful ocean view room but it seems all the rooms is that section were smoking. So they graciously moved us but to a smaller non-smoking room over the ferry dock, with its scheduled diesel noise. The tatami... More

We drove from Shirahama to Katsuura via Kushimoto. The car park was just next to the highway - not too difficult to locate. Shuttle bus was readily available to send us to the pier when we arrived. The ferry was crowded but upon arrival we did not have a too busy feeling (as the hotel is huge, obviously). Pity that... More

The arrival at the hotel is not the best part. You receive preliminary information to park your car quite far from the hotel in a reserved car park. From there, a small shuttle bus, not really convenient if you have large baggages (which was our case since it was a 1-night stop along our 3-weeks journey in Japan), brings you... More

Although not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. I opted to upgrade to the "Sanjokan" building, which is on top of the mountain overlooking the ocean. The view was unreal. Dinner was buffet style and quite good. The onsens were not crowded and easily accessed. Wish I could have stayed more than one night.

I joined a tour and stayed in this hotel. It is a huge hotel as distance wise. You need to take a boat to go to the hotel that is only few minutes from the harbor. There are 6 hot springs which you have to find. You need to follow the line to get the baths and your room which... More

This is the real deal Japanese family onsen resort. If you play Kairosoft games, this is Hot Spring Story in real life. It is a giant hot spring resort on an island with all the related entertainments, i.e. ping pong tables, arcade, massage chairs, food joints (yes, there are various f&b in the resort itself), and souvenirs shop. The resort... More

This giant hotel complex is in a relatively remote location for Japan-- about 4hrs from Osaka or 3-1/2 hrs from Nagoya on the limited express trains. But, the trains run along the coast of the Kii peninsula, so very scenic. The draw of this Ryokan are the onsen baths. There are 7 in all, though one was closed when we... More

Hotel was only accessible by ferry. Though they provided shuttle service from car park to ferry pier, it was not convenient for guests with big, heavy luggage as the shuttle bus did not have specific luggage compartment but just those small passenger van. It was really hectic squeezing in and out of the small van, boarding and disembarking the ferry,... More
