Great place to stay, monks so friendly. Must experience the morning prayers, even though had no idea what was going on, it is intriguing to be there. Location right in the middle of the village with a bus stop right outside.

We spent one night at Fudoin in the company of 2 other couples, one Cdn and one Japanese (the latter had stayed there previously). It was a truly unique experience from the well appointed rooms (tatami mats only) and the multi dish vegetarian dinner, to...More

We took the local bus to Okunoin which worked out fine and a taxi back to Fudoin. You could walk it but it's a fair hoof. We did the night tour and had no problem getting back to Fudoin or in. You might let the desk monk... More

I cannot answer specifically. We did go out on a night tour and got back after 9 and had no problems getting into the inn or rooms but I don't know if check in available at that time. Sorry. John
