Reviewed lot of review and select here to experience "Shukubo" - temple stay overnight with dinner and breakfast. Young monks speak good English, you can understand well, room with modern toliet is spacious, (8+4 tatami) for 2 persons, it's heaven compared to tiny hotel room...More

After an involved journey from Kyoto by trains \ subway \ cable car \bus to the temple, we arrived at a wonderful temple for a one night stay - there was little English spoken by the monks, but we all manged to make ourselves understood....More

This is a very specific experience. Staying in a local temple (pilgrim house) run by monks, who can only speak elementary English seems somehow weird. The temple is quiet and modest but is perfectly in line with koyasan atmosphere. The room was a typical Japanese room and it was very clean. The food is an acquired taste but if you like it is great! The monks are kind and welcoming!...More
