Good traditional Japanese style hotel with affordable price. There are 4 outdoor onsen to enjoy other than the one in the ryokan. Dinner keiseki style has bear meat to try. Buffet breakfast selections are excellent.

Takaragawa onsen osenkaku is an old style Ryokan located in Gunma. You can ride Shinkansen from Tokyo to Jomo-Kogen Station. The ryokan will arrange a shuttle bus to pick you at 2 pm (reservation required). After arriving in ryokan, you will be given a choice of yukata and obi to wear for your stay. We choose the cheapest room with...

I was there for 2 nights in Jan 2017. This place has the biggest outdoor pool (Onsen) in Japan. They provided breakfast and dinner. I didn't like the first night's dinner but the second one was really nice. Staffs were friendly except one old guy who grabbed my arm really hard when I was talking to a group of girls...

We rented a room here for three people. Truly excellent location, excellent baths (we were here in April -- still snowy and cold outside, but the contrast was incredible to the hot baths), and very good restaurant experience. This is one of the most classic onsen experiences you can have.

Convenient pick-up in coach from train station by the Ryokan, but do book in advance. Accommodating to children, well equipped, decent sized rooms. Beautiful getaway with awesome view in the outdoor onsen. Food was alright too!

If you're not staying at the hotel, here's what you need to know so you don't look like a crazy tourist: Hardly anyone speaks English and no signs are in English so pay attention!! It's a naked Onsen with some bizarro rules that are probably in Japanese but I learned the hard way. 1) Naked only applies to the separate...

The hot springs, and surrounding areas, are beyond words. The natural beauty of the environment is absolutely breathtaking, especially if you are lucky enough to come during the winter. During our mid December stay, heavy snow and ice surrounded the springs, making them even more stunning to see. The combination of heat and cold was also quite pleasant. The facilities...

Just the perfect place to relax. It was autumn when we visited and the colours of the Maples were brilliant - our room overlooked a blaze of colour and the river. Breakfast was a wide selection of Asian and western dishes, the quality of which would meet most people's expectations. We spent a great deal of time in the rotenburo...

As a couple visiting Japan for the first time, we wanted to visit an onsen where we could share the experience together. Tokararagawa hit the mark, as it provided three different large mixed-gender baths, and allowed women to wear towels while bathing. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Jomo-kogen, where we were promptly met by Takaragawa's shuttle van. Check-in...
