We travelled to Tomamu for our first family Ski Holiday from New Zealand. The Risonare has huge rooms with plenty of room for us and our many suitcases, we also loved the sauna and spa bath. Unfortunately we had a bug infestation in our room, we tried to get a new room which was quite confusing- it took a while to get the new room and we kept on having to go back to the desk to explain the same situation. The restaurants were generally good but you need to book ahead for a lot of them during peak season. We ended up eating at the ninipuri most mornings/nights given you don’t need a booking. We did ski lessons for ourselves and our 4 year old daughter- highly rate all of the ski instructors and ski school. Our daughters also went to the GAO nursery so we could ski which was a great option to have. All in all it was a great trip and would go again.

Worst service! Despite paying through the nose, the staff didn't even bother making beds every day and when they did, it was terrible. Do not expect service when you book here. Plus the staff dont generally speak english, so hard to communicate.

Our second time staying here, this hotel is a skiers dream. Ski in-ski out as it is literally located half way up a ski run. You can keep your skis right at the door. There is a ski hire shop inside and lockers too. There are several amazing restaurants on site. This hotel’s apartments are absolutely huge. There is a gorgeous spa bath with floor to ceiling windows with views right across the resort. Also a private Sauna. Truly an amazing hotel to stay at.

We had the most wonderful white Christmas holiday staying here. As a family with three children we were attracted by spacious rooms, easy ski-in/ski-out and onsite facilities including the ice village. The Risonare tower is wonderful, the room was amazing (including a jacuzzi in the room) and we had plenty of space for the kids. With lots of beginner ski runs we had so much to explore and this was a highlight holiday of our time living in Japan. We will be back for sure in the future!

We had six nights here, it's wonderful. Breakfast was included and we ate at a couple of places - Platinum was the best. Lovely big room, warm and clean with magnificent views over the resort. We had a spa room and it was worth it. For dinner there's lots of variety, buffet to a la carte. The crab at Hal Buffet is fantastic. There's above ground tunnels to walk to most of the resort, cold but you're out of the snow. The shuttle service is good to get from one end to the other. The wave pool is great. The onsen at the wave pool is fantastic. Great views in the outside pool and the drying room. The skiing is good and easy to get to. Grab the skis from the locker, walk out of the hotel onto the snow and walk up 5m. Then ski down to the chairs. The Ice Village is good fun. The ice slide and inner tube slide are a hoot.

First time to Tomamu and never regret choosing Risonare over The Tower. Not only the friendly service staff, the whole atmosphere felt like a resort more than a busy holiday inn with kids / adults screaming. What was impressive was the behaviour of the staff to make matters as comfortable as possible such as expediting check in process. I like to also commend on a staff which went out of her way to help me clean up my room after a very unfortunate incident when my daughter suddenly fell ill. Kudos to her for cleaning up my room at close to midnight on Christmas eve!

We had 5 nights in Risonare on 15th to 19th Dec 2019. The staff are very friendly and polite. Room is huge and the private jacuzzi is definitely a plus point for the hotel. My son took up 4 toddler ski lessons from Level 1 to Level 2. The teachers were caring and took good care of the kids. Compared to the toddler ski lessons that we went in Karuizawa, Tomamu is much better. The restaurants - Nininupuri, Hal,Apuri Ramen and etc are all serving good food. The only bad thing is we are unable to play banana boat as the snow level is not deep enough. Well we understand that that's for our safety. Thanks for giving us an unforgettable holiday and we really enjoyed it. Planning to come back in December 2020. See you soon!

It's been over 10 years since my last family ski/snowboarding trip to Hokkaido and we landed at this hotel in the Hoshino Resort Tomamu. We reserved 2 rooms for a total of 5 adults and 2 children and their rooms are very spacious with twin beds/combined beds sleeping up to 4 adults comfortably. Hotel staff are helpful and polite. House keeping team did a great job in keeping our rooms tidy. Bathroom comes with comprehensive amentities. The jacuzzi tub in front of large glass panels facing the snowy moutain side gives a truly enjoyable view during any daytime relaxaion moment inside. The majority of restaurants in the hotel require reservation hence it is better to book your seats in advance if you wish to try them out. Otherwise the Hotalu Street housing several restaurants offering a variety of cuisines is just a few minutes walk away following the ski track at the rear entrance/ski entrance of the hotel. Though the shop offers various edible items for sale, it would be great if there is central kitchen to offer basic food for room service. I took 2 days of snowboarding classes with my wife and the kids. The main instructors spoke fluent English and Putunghua. The instructors are friendly and patient, whilst determined to give us manageable challenges so we can acquire the basic skills within the relatively short period of time. We wish to thank Kagari, Yasu, Emi and Hide for their hard work! Also went to the Ice Village and it was fun. See if there will be more to do after their construction works. Haven't got time to visit their indoor pool with waves and other water sports as well as the hotspring. It also looks like there are other activities available during warmer seasons. Would like to return some day to explore further!

Stayed 5D6N as part of a ski holiday with my family of five. Room Exceptionally huge and very nice to have a a warm jacuzzi after a long day at the slopes. We booked a two bedroom almost similar to an apartment less the self cook kitchen. One room has a double bed other the other has a bunk bed with two single beds below. Everything is good size, including the living room. This is the best part of the accommodation. The view from the hotel room was also excellent. Facilities Risonare, being a ski-in/out, has a in house ski rental outlet which works in partnership with the one at the Tower. That means you can return / keep the skis at either outlet which makes it extremely convenient. There is a small play room for the kids, and some restaurants. We had dinner at PaySage but was unable to visit Platinum as it wasn’t opened when we were there. Morning breakfast is at Nininupuri which was a short 5 mins walk away (but super cold as the walkway is not heated). Buffet spread is huge but can get very busy after 8.15. We could also have breakfast at PaySage but with fewer options. There is also a quiet area where hot tea/coffee, juices are served where you can do personal reading or work on your laptop. Services The counter services were great typical of the Japanese hotels. They could converse well in English and Mandarin and help with most questions. I recall dropping my room key at the Tower and was very confident that it will be returned if found (which I promptly found out at the Risonare). Location We arrived and departed using the Hokkaido Skyliner which runs a few services as well as getting to the Zoo. The trip from Chitose took us about two hours. While Risonare is away from the thick of action (Tower), there is a regular bus service that runs every 15 mins (peak) / 20 mins (non peak) to the Tower, Mina Mina Beach etc. it was easy to get around. All the resorts and facilities are also largely connected via a long walkway (other than to GAO). Ski This is the probably the letdown of the trip (nothing to do with the hotel but a critical part of any ski traveler who wants to stay at Tomamu). Lessons are largely conducted in Japanese with very limited English. I overheard some instructors speaking in Mandarin but this option was not available. For young kids who are learning to ski, difficulty in conversation makes it even harder to learn. That contrasts greatly with the instructors from Club Med who were mostly caucasians. This is an overall a great accommodation option especially if you / family are experienced skiers and can operate without lessons.

We booked Hoshino Resort early in the year and The Tower was already full and had to settle with the more expensive Risonare Resort. There were 2 options to get to the resort and we booked the bus that took us directly to the resort. We arrived directly to Chitose Airport and the directions to the counter was very easy. However we had to go to the domestic terminal to get the bus. If you’re not sure, after heading out of the International arrivals, turn left and the counter is just there. They will be able to guide you to the counter at the domestic arrival lounge. The walk would take you 15 minutes. The bus ride is a very comfortable 1.5 hours ride which will stop halfway to let you ease yourselves. I believe In summer the bus ride is much shorter. We arrived at The Tower which had a shuttle to Risonare. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted and guided. Our rooms were not ready and they kept our bags and showed us where to go. There an lots of food outlets and if you stay at Risonare and if your breakfast is included have it at the 31st floor which. Is called Wagyu I believe. The breakfast is really fantastic. Check the pictures. If you miss breakfast you can use your coupon for lunch, with it have a value to it. If you’re going for ski lessons, make sure you book it in advance as it was all fully booked throughout our stay. Here’s the rating out of 5:- Rooms : 4.5*...the only reason I did not give it a full 5* was the floors were thin and those upstairs who was walking or running, you could hear the footsteps or stomping. Facilities : 5* Service : 6* don’t think you will find that many places with the service and hospitality Food : 4* Prices: 3* - can be costly Setbacks : The outlets only accept cash but if you are staying in house you can charge it to your room. Even on the ski areas including lifts you can charge it to the rooms. However as they seem to cater to the Chinese guests, they have Alipay & WeChat pay. Car rental : 5* There is a Toyota Rent a car in the Tower, so we booked our car prior to arriving and the car was readily available Overall we loved our stay there but can be costly. Will definitely come back here again but need to work hard to save money.
