Everyone in the world who wants to run a hotel/lodging should come here and see how it is done. Everything is superb, from when you are greeted at the bus station to when you are dropped off by the warm hosts, Nao and Kimi.
As with previous reviewers we picked the 'Eternal Flame' based on Tripadvisor reviews. They were certainly not wrong. Nao and Kimmi could not do enough to make sure our skiing holiday was great. The breakfasts were good and Kimmi's dinners were sensational. The lodge is...More

It's never too early to book-I would do it asap. With an exchage rate of about 80 AUD cents to $1 yen (similar to now) it cost approx $270 p/nite for 2 rooms -one twin, one double with ensuite). The 5 course dinner they serve (you must book the day before though) is approx $25 AUD p/person-very inexpensive and delicious. There are not any cooking facilities-we did use the hot water to make 2 min noodles for the kids-otherwise its a 6-8 min walk to the "Lawson"-like a 7/11 where you could buy some ready meals-mostly salad, sushi, karage chicken, potato gems, chicken skewers-that sort of thing. Also you can buy alcohol there. We bought pizza for the kids one night and walked up to the Italian (3-4 mins) Restaurant Syo to collect it. Cherry Pub (2-3 min walk) does western style food, quite good, similar prices to hm.
