When booking a family ski trip 6 months out, all you can hope is that everything comes together. Our week at Powder Temple was the highlight of our time in Japan. Jake and Adam and the team could not do enough to make us welcome, picking us up from the bus station, running us into town to get our gear and groceries for the week and even running me out to Hakuba 47 after leaving my backpack at the apartment on the first day on the slopes - too excited!

With three kids, it was great to have space in the apartment for all of us, with a room for them and one for the parents, as well as a full kitchen to be able to cook dinner and get ready for the day. The included breakfast hit the spot, some mornings we were even treated to a hot breakfast - with eggs just how you like them!

What a great week! Skiing was awesome for us as a family, and the ease of getting on and off the shuttle buses out the front of Powder Temple made it possible to try different resorts. The atmosphere in the bar at the end of the day just capped it off, with cold beer and some great food.

Thanks guys. We will be back... one day!

We had an awesome stay at the powder temple. Comfy rooms, great food and lovely atmosphere. The staff is very helpful and know the area well, giving you tips on where will be good to board/ski on any given day which helps with getting more powder runs with less crowd. Definitely recommend this place!

Great location, great atmosphere and Jake was a great host. Would be 5/5 if the bed and pillows weren't fairly average and the wifi in our room sucked (good in the common room).
I have never been looked after better by the owner of a place. If you want someone who cares about your snow trip then go to Powder Temple.
Its 700m from Echoland where you can get a great feed (or just ask Jake and he will recommend some great places), 300m from 7/11 and the shuttle bus is right out the front for all the mountains in the area with a timetable on the wall out the front.
Common room is warm and cosy, Drying room does the trick, rooms are heated well and place was really clean.
Priced really decently as well. Highly recommend staying here for your trip

This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in Japan and a very disappointing stay. First, it looks nothing like the photos. It is undergoing a renovation that is half done and seems abandoned. Hazardous chemicals are stored in the hallways. (I have photos where a large container clearly marked as hazardous and flammable is being stored in the hallway). The high staircase out front has no guard rail and is unsafe. Parts of the floors are stripped and not finished. The interior staircase is stripped and unfinished. On top of that the hotel was not very clean. The bathrooms were not up to Japan standards. They had a plumbing issue so used the room next to us as the shared bathroom and people were opening and closing the door until after 2am. The walls are thin and the room would shake when they closed the doors. They have heaters in the room that have an alarm that goes off every 4 hours and you can’t turn it off, so expect to be awakened several times a night. The ski storage room has trash about the floor. There was no soap in the bathroom and we had to request it. The staff was the only bright spot as they were kind and helpful. But otherwise this place is not safe and poor quality.

Stayed here last night and had a very strange encounter that I get like I needed to share. Curious if other guests had similar issues/experiences. About half way through the night I heard a wrapping on the window and thought nothing of it. Next thing I know I see a pack of some of the snow monkeys everyone keeps talking about trying to make their way into my room. I was able to beat the buggers away but luckily I was able to snap a picture of the perpetrators right before they ran into the forest. They were like a Deer in headlights they were so shocked at my flash camera. Overall a very strange experience and your experience completely depends on your fear or love of the local snow monkeys.

It was beyond disgraceful what Powder Temple did to me and my mates. We booked a room during Christmas week months in advance while we’re on two month holiday then got an electronic message right beforehand that we couldn’t stay there due to renovations. Thankfully we found a new place that allowed me and me boys to grill up some grub on the barbie which we all love <3

Hi there, I apologize again. It was not my intention to put travelers out, unfortunately my contracted builder ran very late with repairs leaving me in a position where i could not lodge you, very embarrassing for me and not very professional for the contractor. . The positive is we have some new amazing economy rooms with central heating. Two new toilets and 3 sparkling new showers, our guest have loved them. please reach out if you return to Hakuba, I would like to offer you a discounted stay so yo can get a true experience of our comfortable, affordable lodge. All the best

My and my mates came here for a few days at the beginning of the season and got treated worse than a dingo in the Perth heat. We were served spoiled vegemite and the bedroom had heaps of hair in the sheets from the previous family. I did not have a goodday. Only not giving one star because the owner had a smelly smell that reminded me my mates cousins snow monkey cologne.

Hi there, Thanks for your candid comments. I will bring the hair comments up with staff, we do wash then gas dry the sheets and then run a lint roller over them normally but it must have been missed, my apologies. I cant imagine you were treated so poorly as to make that comment, we have a friendly respectable team that guests love. I also struggle to comprehend your comment about my smell and don't find the comment very respectable to have been made regardless of you being entitled to make it. Please reach out if you return to Hakuba, I would like to offer you a discounted stay so yo can get a true experience of our comfortable, affordable lodge. All the best

Powder temple provided me with the worst travel experience imaginable. Avoid this place at ALL costs. Came to Hakuba with high expectations, and they destroyed my trip. Hostel was run down, heat doesn't work (in the WINTER) and owner are terrible at communicating issues to the guests. Avoid this place if you want a smooth and well run vacation. Otherwise, have fun dealing with the headache of this ownership. There are so many options in Hakuba, and highly advise travelers to look elsewhere!

Hi Nathaniel, what scathing attack you've mounted on an honest clean comfortable lodge that's been exceeding guest expectations for a long time. A couple of points of clarification so that guest have the actual truth about the lodge, we work very hard to provide an amazing holiday experience for people. We are 2 Star rated, we have never intended to portray ourselves as anything else. We are not a hostel. The entire lodge IS heated and it works very well, ground floor by a ducted system, commercial floor by large kero heaters and gas heaters, guest rooms with gas heaters or reverse cycle air conditioning and our apartment by gas heaters. The lodge is not run down, its cosy comfortable and people rave about our comfortable lounge. In fact it now has shiny new toilets and marble showers for our shared bath rooms...... very far from run down. I can say I've never had you convey an issue to me at all, I answer all guest communications within minutes. In closing, if you are reading this, please take this guests comments 'with a pinch of salt', they are very far from truthful.

Loved this place!! Really cool vibe, super clean and the staff were really friendly. Shuttle bus stop directly out front but everything is walking distance. The crew helped us hire snowboarding gear, tips on where to eat and drink. Will be back 🙌

The Powder Temple is a hub for warm atmosphere, delicious chicken wings (yum!) and is a great base for people that want ease to explore and have a Hakuba snow/ski adventure. After a day of wintery fun, come back to simple comforts, warm food and chat with the other guests in common room over drinks about your runs, stacks and ramen finds! The fantastic value of this venue means you can save your pennies for more lift tickets but they haven't skimped on the new utilities and are consistently upgrading! Can't wait to visit again! Great value, great location, great staff, great stay!
