Probably the only proper hotel in Biei, this place is very nice and practical as a base to explore the amazing views this town offers. It has nice staff, nice and big rooms (albeit a bit old), big windows. There are only 2 floors with all the rooms on the second floor which makes it easy to get around. There is a free to use parking lot next to it, some restaurents around and it is walking distance from Biei station.

Reservation: I directly wrote to the hotel and was replied quickly in clear English. A few days before my arrival, they wrote to me again asking for my re-confirmation. The whole process didn't require any credit card info and is based on trust only. This is the common practice only in Japan which reflects the purity, sincerity and honour of the Japanese people. I appreciate and respect.

Location: It seems that this hotel is the only available hotel around the Biei JR train station or in the downtown generally, though there may be a few family-run guesthouses. Biei is a very quiet city and I always found I was the only person walking on the street, no matter day or night. Biei is in the middle between Asahikawa and Furano (30 mins each by train to Asahikawa or Furano). If you wish to have more choices, you may set your base in Asahikawa instead, given JR train is so convenient. Day excursion to the colourful farmlands is good enough. Accomodations in Biei/Furano area are more expensive generally and choice is lacking. The price for each night I stayed in this hotel is 8000 yen and is on the lower side already as compared to other accomodations in Biei/Furano area.

Room: Fine with everything. Clean and bed comfy. Curtains are light in colour and I was awaken by the sunlight everyday around 4:30am (yes, sunrise in Hokkaido is very early).

Breakfast: Not much variety, yet the quality is good, fresh and the main point is it's all local produce.

Staff: Front desk man friendly, though spoken English not so good. With my limited (poor) Japanese, that's not a problem. That adds fun to my trip.

Interest Class: It has charged classes for making ice-cream, cheese etc. Sounds interesting.

Restaurants around: There are a few only. Udon with curry and local vegetables is the chef here. Worth trying.

All guests I met are Japanese people and I enjoy the tranquil ambience here.

Not knowing much about this hotel before, we did not have particularly high expectations. It turned out to be one of the best hotels we had stayed during our 9-day trip at Hokkaido. The hotel is modern with very spacious rooms, located conveniently right next to Biei's JR Station. The room is clean and ours (a triple room) has a large balcony facing the main street of Biei. You can just walk down the main street for a variety of restaurants. The hotel also provides free parking and a simple but adaquate breakfast. All in all, we are very happy with Hotel Lavenir. Had we had more time, we would have joined some of the bread/cheese making workshops organized by the hotel. You can reserve a room directly with the hotel via internet. We got very prompt response from the hotel's reservation office which communicated well in English.

Unlike other big cities in Japan, Biei is a quiet town without exciting night lives. But the town is still adorable where you can enjoy fresh air and have relaxing time.

There are only a few choices of hotels/hostels in Biei and we chose Lavenir because of its location. It only took you one minute or two to walk from the JR station to the hotel.

There were not many rooms in the hotel but the rooms were spacious and very clean. As we stayed there for three nights, we appreciated how much space the room offered us.

Staff members were very helpful. They spoke basic English. We needed a few bacteries for some important electronic tools and the staff at the front desk was very kind in offering us a few. We were very grateful for his help.

They offered breakfast too. It was just basic food but that's enough for a light breakfast. But there was a hygiene problem - we saw flies at the restaurant that we had our breakfast and I am afraid some food must have been contaminated as my partner did not feel well in his stomach after eating breakfast. I believe the food should be "covered" for the sake of good hygiene.

We came to Lavenir because of its convenient location and based on the positive ratings here. And are we glad to have made the right choice!

Lavenir is a small but charismatic hotel that offer spacious western-style rooms, clean bathrooms and a big balcony. For rooms facing the main street, you get a great view of the magnificent alps in the background of the town.

Its location is unbeatable, 3 minutes walk to the town center, and you will find Biei JR station, the local tourism office, convenience stores, restaurants, a drug store, bus stops for Twinkle Bus (local tour) and even a bicycle rental shop.

The hotel is connected to Biei's roadside station Oka-no-Kura, a rest stop for highway travelers. This turns out to be a big plus for us as it has a small restaurant, a souvenir shop and a 'market' selling local produce like milks, wheat products, cookies, cakes, cheese and corns etc.

We booked our rooms by emailing the hotel directly, response (in English) was prompt. Internet access is available in room via LAN cable free of charge.

Do note that the hotel's restaurant serves only breakfast (simple but delicious) but this is not a problem since there are many restaurants nearby.

This is rural Japan so you shouldn’t expect high levels of English. The staff are helpful and friendly if you’re patient and smile. Rooms are clean and large. There is a small balcony with special balcony shoes but there are no seats.
The restaurant/cafe is open for lunch and dinner but not during the afternoon for coffee and cake. There is a well stocked souvenir shop and convenience store attached. There is not much for a tourist to do in Biei itself. We went out of town to visit local gardens and for dinner.

Stayed here during my trip to the Biei-Furano area for 3 nights. I must say that this hotel was amongst the cheaper options in the area, though still pricey by hotel standards. Located within 3 mins walk to the Biei JR station and served by a number of buses including Furano Lavender bus that connects you from Asahikawa Airport if you are arriving from there. The bus runs throughout the year and payment is with the standard method across Japan. Access to Furano is easily done by train, which is cheaper, do check out the train timings to plan your trips.

For a starters the room was larger than in an average hotel in Japan. I opt for a triple room and there was still space to move about freely. Usual amenities available in the hotel, though there is a lack of microwave which would have been useful to heat up bentos or packed food.

This hotel is located in a nice quiet town that generally have shops closing at about 5-6pm. A supermarket is located on the other side of the train tracks if food is required after restaurant hours. 7-11 is conveniently located 5 mins away.

Breakfast was a great spread made with local produce, together with a small salad bar. One the best breakfasts I've had during my trip.

The hotel can be easily booked in advance over email, and they work on the trust system where you do not pay ahead and they'd confirm your reservation a couple of days before your date of arrival. I'd suggest making a reservation as soon as you confirm your plans as the hotel has no more than 20 over rooms. During peak season it is usually filled with locals with a couple of tourists.

Would definitely stay at this hotel again if I am in Biei.

We booked this hotel with low expectation as we had read reviews. Thought this would be like typical small hotel near train station. However it came out that this hotel is quite like small boutique, spotlessly clean and quiet. Rooms conditions are far better than what we saw in the pictures. Breakfast spread is also sumptuous with almost everything from eggs, salad, Japanese foodies and so on. This place must be quite busy during summertime.

Hotel is located next to JR station. And across the street there is a bus stop that goes to Blue Pond.
Room considerably larger than typical hotel room in Japan and quiet comfortable.
Staffs were very nice and well equipped with surrounding informations.
If you need more information, there is a tourist information next door.

I have stayed at this hotel during a photography trip to Biei this winter. This hotel had a great rate - like USD 50 per night. It is very close to the train station (couple minutes walking) and has very clean and spacious rooms. It is not the most atmospheric hotel but I think it does the job perfectly. My only comment would be for the breakfast to have some more choices (such as plain non-sugar bread) but other than that - it is a great choice for any trip to Biei if you want to stay in the town.
