CROCK.OF.[--]. I looked online for a nicer hostel than the one I was already staying in, came across the online pictures for Dlux and thought ooo nice and not bad prices. Where the hell in that hostel they got them pictures from I do not know. The stench of B.O, cigarettes, vomit and p!ss when I opened my door was... More

We had medium to good experiences with Backpackers hostels but nothing so awful as this one. Sure that the staff was very helpful and nice but this hostel should be closed as it is abandonned (no management in place), the rooms / kitchen / lounges were all filthy and smelling bad. Furthermore, rooms were not in proper shape. It is... More

If you're looking for a REALLY wild time, then sure, this is the place to come. If not and you're just up for a bit of partying in Kings Cross and some sightseeing, like my friend and I, do not come here! We were put into an 8 bed dorm and when we got up there (after a whole day... More

The location is good.it's near the Opera House but the floor wa so dirty that we didn't want to drop our luggage on the floor. And there is a a strange smell either in the room or in the corridor. MOreover it's not possible to open the window. There is a free breakfast but we had to ask at the... More

Lol, this place should be shut down. I booked this for my birthday thinking it would be a cool place to have pre drinks on the roof top before hitting the cross. Where do I begin? The roof top is filthy, thank god for the view. Our room had to be a used brothel. Parts of the wall was falling... More

Well let me start by saying that my experience wasn't all bad because at the time I stayed there (Feb 2012) I was 18 and hadn't stayed in many hostels, so to me it wasn't very bad. But I will tell you about the hostel and the staff. I had only decided to stay here because I had originally booked... More

Stayed for 6 nights in a king bed ensuite on the 7th floor, the highest floor of the hostel (free upgrade when we booked). The place was quite rundown but you get what you pay for - was happy to find this place which cost us half of what we would've to fork out for a city hotel with a... More

If you are looking for an amazing social life and good time, this hostel is definitely the best hostel to choose. Manager (laurence) and all other staff are so amazing, lovely and very helpful, made us feel at home and felt like family by the time we left. Rooms are good, kept clean, a little run down which many call... More

This place was beyond disgusting. I stayed at Dlux Hostel during the easter period 2013 and regret booking with this hostel. There were blood stains and hair on the matresses that we slept on and most importantly INSECTS! During my sleep I was always itching and so were my friends. The bathroom roof was very unstable and was died up... More

I'm going to start my review with some excerpts from an account I read about life in a prisoner of war camp: "The dorms were vastly overcrowded and had been badly damaged"..."We slept on makeshift beds, made from four posts with a thin mattress full of insects"..."Our bedding and washing were hung up to dry overhead"..."It was almost impossible to... Staying in Kings Cross

Neighbourhood Profile
Kings Cross
Changing liquor laws are remodeling "The Cross," Sydney's red light district. These new rules have encouraged trendy cafes and boutiques to pop-up in the area, as well as organic markets on Saturdays. The area's nightclubs are still popular with youngsters, however, who will dance to the early morning hours on weekend nights. There are plenty of artifacts from Kings Cross' shady past when gangsters and liquor houses owned the place. Today, one can still find a variety of adult entertainment venues in this evolving area.

“Aim for somewhere on the lower floors: the lift can be pretty slow and going up the stairs with heavy luggage is killer!”

“Besides the lousy quality of the hotel, it is located in a dangerous area (brothels, drunks, drugaddicts, etc.). Looking it in the map seems to be the right choice (close to Botanic Gardens and Sydney Opera, but not in the centre) but once you stepped in the Darlinghurst street you realize your mistake!”
