We were staying at the Prince West down the road - where the food options were limited and expensive. This hotel's Izakaya was a great find, warm and inviting. We chose the Yakatori but there were many other options including fresh fish, ramen noodles and more. We will be back.

Hotel Dairoku has history. So yes it's a very old hotel. When I first went there nearly 10 years ago, it was shabby and I didn't like it. But they've worked very hard and renovated the place each year that is now to the point of a very comfortable and cozy lodge. The room is all tatami and the sleeping...

A group of 5 of us stayed 3 nights in 3 rooms. At the height of skiing in Japan 15 years ago, this hotel would be filled with 400 guests. There were only 12 guests while we were there in the middle of the week which is not unusual these days for many of the hotels at the Shiga-kogen ski...
