Detailed Reviews
We had an amazing time getting to know Uruguay's peaceful countryside at La Sirena. The staff were very accommodating and we loved talking to the owner Rod about the history of the ranch. Just what I needed in my otherwise fast paced, busy travels through South America. Horse riding, fishing, bread making and wine - couldn't have been happier!

What I remember most from Estancia la Sirena - and what I can see when re-watching my photos - are happy animals... horses, dogs, cows, sheep, cats... I loved my stay at La Sirena... the owner (? manager?) was very cool and easy going, place was very well taken care of, clean, with many comfortable spots to chill out when you want to rest in between many activities available... i loved horseriding and the river (with boat and jet ski)... food was wonderful (well prepered and ingriedients also were healthy). We were lucky that the owner spent evening with us singing and playing the guitar. I loved the place and I am already recommending it to my friends to go there...

We have stayed in La Sirena for 3 days and it was a wonderful stay. We have never ever experienced so friendly and wonderful hosts. Lucia and Rodney make this place to a very special place that we will never forget. We had 3 extraordinary days with them. One day we made a horseback trip with Lucia through their beautiful farm and the second day we made a boat trip up the river to a wonderful sandy beach. It felt like a family trip with Lucia and Rodney and their wonderful 3 dogs. It was so relaxed and all in all we felt like staying with friends. That makes this place really so special. We are sure we are coming back some day to visit Lucia and Rod again to make some more tours in this absolutely beautiful landscape. So if you are looking for peace, nature and the most friendly hosts you can meet, go to La Sirena!

Firstly the positives: it's an atmospheric historic estancia near a bend in the river. There is abundant wildlife, especially parakeets and taro birds. The outdoor asado is very good. If the property was half the price it would be a charming spot for a short stay. However at the prices charged it represents very poor value.
To access the property you have to travel 10km on an appalling unsurfaced road. We arrived at the appointed time to find no staff at the property (we had to phone the owner and wait until someone came to be admitted). It was early in the season and none of the much-praised activities were offered. The accommodation was clean and adequate for an overnight stay, but of a very basic three-star standard. And despite charging five-star prices, they don't take credit cards. Much room for improvement here, and better options are available.

Food excellent.
Accomodation deteriorating.
Very poor value for money.
We were early season but non of the advertised activities were available. All we managed was a walk to the river beach.
Rooms were clean, but generally a poor quality, in need of updating.
This accomodation was about three times the price of other hotels we stayed in around Uruguay, Colonia, Carmello and Fray Bentos and Salto on the Eastern side.

We stayed at La Sirena for one night in May 2011 as part of a 2 week trip to Uruguay from Australia.
Basic clean room with heater and attached bathroom.
Lucia and Rodney, our hosts, and who both also speak English, are very friendly and took great pleasure in showing us around the historical property. Location is about 15 kilometres outside of Mercedes and right alongside the Rio Negro.
Meals were well prepared and served in the main building.
We definitely hope to go back for another visit and would recommend this peaceful location.

Great place to really relax and enjoy some peace and quiet! The landscapes are just breathtaking and the owners and staff were so welcoming and friendly. If you really want to experience nature at it's finest, I thoroughly recommend this place!

We wanted a rustic type of estancia experience, and La Sirena delivered. Everyone on the property was incredibly inviting, accommodating and lovely. We stayed for two nights and opted to do two horseback rides with Roberto. The second ride culminated in a trip to the Rio Negro where we fished with Roberto and the two dogs. It's a peaceful place and I'm really happy to have had our experience there.

We stayed only one nigt in March 2011- we should have had the time to enjoy the place fully on at least two nights. The hosts are sp generous and attentive even though the have a whole farm to attend to as well. The rooms are large and very simple decorated but you are there for the nature so I did not matter. We went sailing and swimming in Rio Negro, horseback riding and we enjoyed the nature around the place so much. We ralaxed in the garden with the view to the grassing horses, Mercedes city down in the valley and watched the sun set accompanied by snacks and good bottle of red wine we bought. All the meals were included, delicious and simple. My dad did however miss a steak!
We would recommend this as one of our best estancia stays in Uruguay.
