They do have secured parking at the rear of the hotel, but only for a few cars, and at 5pm I found that there were no more spaces. On inquiry at reception it was suggested that I park my car at a public garage a few blocks away. There was no offer to compensate me for the expense. The following day at midday I was able to park in the hotel car park, but due to all the one way streets it turned out to be a rather complex manoeuvre to reach the car park.
Back to the hotel, the reception is eye catching and comfortable and lives up to the $90 price tag. The staff are OK if a bit uninspired and the restaurant was average.
Best feature of this hotel is the location, right on the main town plaza, and behind a yummy ice cream shop that stays open late. Second best was the cable TV. They had lots of movie channels to choose from. We watched some interesting movies on TrueTV.
Finally, check-out was painfully slow. They are not yet computerized and all the invoicing is done by hand.
As to breakfast, just what is expected, but no hot meals for foreigners!!
At the front desk, Gabriel offers very helpful information, and I'd say this is my best memory I'll keep of this accommodation in Mercedes.

Common spaces well, especially the pool.
Breakfast acceptable, but without variety.
I do not recommend it, nor would I return... but unfortunately it is of the little that is in Mercedes, that is why the rate is that of a 4 star hotel of Montevideo

The hotel is situated right in the main square. Really great central location and has free parking at the rear.
Warm greeting at check in and room was small but modern and well maintained. Basic mini bar, tv. No safe or tea/coffee facilities. Air con. Bed comfy and I slept well with s room facing over the pool rather than the street.
Bathroom basic and had a bad smell and the shower head was poor delivering dribbles of water only. Hairdryer.
Free wifi throughout
Breakfast buffet basic and everything was either stodgy (breads) or sweetened so not to my liking. No cooked foods.
Hotel has a restaurant attached which is run separately. Service there was appalling. Firstly told kitchen was shut and to come back at 8. Then when I did come back and to choose four times before I could get a meal I wanted as things out of stock. Didn't even have local beers.
Outdoor pool and sun loungers if you want them and a gym, but did not see that.
The hotel is a fairly uninteresting modern concrete building right in the centre of Mercedes on a corner of a nice plaza. It’s a short walk to the river and there are plenty of drinking and eating options around it. It also has a pool, but we didn’t use it.
The room was ok, clean and reasonably modern, but very bland. Just somewhere to sleep.
We briefly had breakfast before leaving, it was very poor as others have commented, so didn't have much. The restaurant is really dim with very little natural daylight. Luke warm coffee is available as well as some fruit and breads. I suggest skipping it and grabbing something in a cafe over the road.
The big surprise for us was Mercedes itself, it was a much nicer place than we expected with a busy river front and lots of people around and a nice atmosphere - it was a Saturday night, which I’m sure helped. As is typical in Uruguay, it doesn't really start until well after 9pm.
In summary, nothing remarkable, but ok for a night.
Reception – efficient and short. There is a friendly tourist office by the riverside.
Décor modern with the sink in the bedroom and the rest of the bathroom separate.
Breakfast was chaotic in a dark Pepperonis café. Continental with ham and cheese. Coffee was a bit better than normal.
Rooms are small even the ones with twin beds. A Quality Inn would be considered luxury in comparison.
Lighting is fair, but not great for reading
Bed- comfortable
Refrigerator-a small one
No Wi-Fi- , but they have wire that reaches the bed
TV- old with lots of channels in English
Room for bags very tight
Tea Kettle- no
Bathroom- shower pressure ok not great
Towels- clean and thick
Amenities- soap- shampoo and conditioner
Hair dryer- no, but you can request one in the lobby
Bedding- clean and thin.
There is a catamaran that is supposed to do river trips; however it only works on the weekends if there are enough people. There really is not much to see in the town, there is the river and the beaches that are very well appointed. However there is nothing to rent to enjoy the river. No boats, no kayaks, no jet skis, no chairs, no umbrellas. If you like to camp and can bring everything you need with you, you might enjoy it. As the rest of what we have seen of the country, nothing seems to work very well and they are not set up for foreign tourism. They give you great glossy pamphlets, but the places are always closed, if they are open, there is nothing to see and often the pictures do not match the place as they are very run down.
"Rooms facing the park may be noisy, especially on weekends. You can hear the thump thump of a nearby discotheque until wee hours of the morning."Read full review
