I hardly know where to begin. The staff to a man/woman is friendly, helpful and professional.
The best and most amazing example of this is that a staff member drove my passport, that I had left in the safe, to Chitose Airport, a 2 hour drive, so I would not miss my flight!
Everything works perfectly and the breakfast and dinner buffets are varied, healthy, and tasty.
The rooms are all two story little apartments complete with a fridge and counter space.
The onsen is modern with a lovely view over the mountain (when outside standing up)
Access to the ski hill is easily made by either a short chair ride or a 5 min ride in the monorail

Rusutsu has some of the best powder snow in the world. The boarding was fantastic runs on both sides of the resort. Lunch in Lone Pine cafe (in the gondola tower) is great value and first class food. Will go back for the boarding and the food. The meals at the Westin are average and expensive. Just down the road there are a number of small bars and restaurants )2 - 5 tables) with excellent meals. Rodeo Drive is excellent. loft style rooms are good but the 16 stairs up and down from the bedroom is a bit of a pain especially after injuring a knee on the slopes.

I arrive in the evening and the check in was easy. Bus from airport stop at the door of the hotel. Bags were quickly collected by the concierge and they will wait for you to do the check in before bringing the luggage together with you to your room.

When we enter the room, there is a bedroom on the left with a large king size bed. On right, there is a flight of stairs that brings you to the lower level. Room is a duplex with 2 murphy bed, kitchenette and sofa on the lower level. There is a nespresso machine downstairs with 4 capsules daily.

Toilet is only on the lower level. Hence, it is a hassle to go down a flight of stairs just to use the toilet and to shower for the elderly. Otherwise, the room is large and very comfortable. The stairs weren't a problem for us. Bed room is rather well kept.

Ski boots and Ski can be rented on level one. It is very convenient. However, do take note it takes time for them to find the right size for you and to adjust the ski to fit your boots. Hence, it is best to go the day before you go for ski class. The command of English of the staff at the ski counter is not good which was expected. They will try to understand you but it will take a while for that. So make ample time to do this.

Ski lessons were conducted by foreigners and so far we got all English speaking instructors. We got private lessons. The instructors are really nice and friendly. You can request for them to come to Westin or you can take the monorail to the other resort where their main office is located. If you request for them to come over, they will be located just outside the place where you collect the ski. If you are a beginner, it is recommended to go to the main office to meet the instructor. If you have skied before, you can meet them at Westin and take the Ski lift near Westin to the ski area.

The Onsen is located in the hotel. There is an indoor and outdoor area for the Onsen. For privacy sake, the outdoor area has a high wall so there isn't really a view.

Overall, a good quiet hotel. I will go again.

This is our 6th stay at the Rusutsu Resort but the first time we have booked directly on the Marriott website as we were only able to book the week before we left. We were amazed to be told at reception that our exceedingly expensive rate did not include breakfast. Every other visit it was part of our room rate before and after Westin took over. The website did not give a breakfast option. We are Marriot members and our son works in a Marriott hotel in Australia. Reception staff were not helpful, when we queried breakfast not being included, their only comment was you have a very nice room. Our room is identical to the rooms we had previously! We have fabulous memories of our stays at the Westin and relaxing over breakfast. We hope the service improves during the week. It is also perculiar that with 3 adults in the room you only get 2 amenities packs. To the credit of housekeeping they provided, when requested, some bowls and spoons to eat what we could buy at the supermarket for breakfast. Previously we would have rated the hotel 5+ but price and lack of service might have us looking else where.

Dear Voyager65139810789, Thank you for choosing The Westin Rusutsu Resort for your recent stay. Especially, it was your 6th stay with us. Thank you very much. We appreciate for taking your precious time to share your experiences with us. It is truly regrettable that our associate’s service did not meet your expectation especially about the breakfast option and amenity service for three people. As for the breakfast option, we offer “stay for breakfast” package on the brand website. However, our receptionist should have offered the assistance with a clear explanation. Secondly about in-room amenity, we arrange and change the set up depending on the number of adults. We will analyze what was missing and how improve these service issues. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, which occurred in your room. We will share your important feedback with our related managements and take immediate action to exceed your expectation. If there is a chance, we do hope you come back to the Westin Rusutsu Resort for 7th stay with us. Once again, thank you very much for your feedback. We are looking forward to welcoming back to The Westin Rusutsu Resort. Sincerely, Hotel Management The Westin Rusutsu Resort

I really wanted to give the Westin 5 stars. Their service was top notch and they were so friendly. The rooms were large and the bed comfy. The onsen was absolutely amazing!!! If you are a westerner and are a little scared to do the public bath thing, you will be missing out on one of the best parts of the hotel. I named the hot tub the “witches brew” because (1) it looks like a witches pot full of bubbly water (2) it is always colourful from the scents they add (3) it has healing powers to sore muscles after a big day on the slopes. Besides the witches brew, the outside onsen allows your face to stay cool while your muscles take time to soak. We stayed at the Westin for a week and only used our shower once. The rest of the time we used the public bath....they are just that good!
As for the downsides, somehow we missed the “memo” that said to include your meals in your stay. Big mistake!! Breakfast was like $30 AU and dinner was double that. We went to 7/11 and bought yogurt and pastry for brekkie but there wasn’t cutlery in the kitchenette. We ended up managing with the little coffee spoons. We went to Rusutsu resort and got some cheap hamburgers and pizza but they were not very tasty. If we would have known, we would have booked the food in our hotel package. Though, an alacarte brekkie would be nice as it is hard to ski hard with a big breakfast in the belly.
Oh, on the food issue....kudos to the Westin for there healthy meal options. The healthy meal options were very tasty and were actually healthy.
Lastly, another big downer is the Westin is NOT ski in and ski out and they are very deceptive in their advertising. First off you have to hike/ski about 300 metres to get to the Westin lift that takes you to the ski field. When coming back in the afternoon, even though I zoomed through the beginner area, I couldn’t make it to the Westin lift and once again found myself hiking up to the lift and then having to hike the 300 metres from the lift to the hotel. I think if Westin advertised correctly this wouldn’t be a big deal, but when you stay there, thinking you are going to have ski in/ski out, it makes you a bit upset.
Overall, we would stay at the Westin and would recommend others to stay there as well. We would buy the food package next time and our mindset about the ski in and ski out would be different. Otherwise, the place is amazing.

We are very appreciating your feedback both positive and downwards for positive side specially your comments related Onsen public bath and our signature Westin Eat Well menus. Went to Rusutsu To ski the first time, we normally go to neisiko. As westin has got the best ski resort in the whole Japan two times in a roll, we gave it a try. We have a group of 5 people and everyone just love this resort and want to go back again!

Room size: very big, two floors and they have spare bed in the living room. Like the bath area although I don’t use it but others do. The only drawbacks is the toilet in downstairs that required us to go up and down to go to the bathroom. The sink has a Long table. They also have a kitchen sink and an nexpresso machine.

Ski-in and out: don’t have. Ski lift is about 5 mins walk away, open at 9am and close at 4:30pm. Ski pass can be purchased at the reception a 6000 yen. We can rent the ski gear at the hotel and they do provide lockers. So, it is also quite convenient.

Ski area: 3 mountains! Lots of red, some green and quite a lot of black as well. We went there during Chinese New Year, despite this, not a lot of people on the slope. Very enjoyable ski. There are beginner and family slope in the shorter mountain that you can take a monorail from the hotel.

Onsen: fantastic, got jacuzzi, outdoor, cold bath, sauna and jet shower.

Restaurants and buffet: food is pretty good and consider its a five star hotel, the price is reasonable. Breakfast has lots of choice. Set dinner in the Japanese restaurant was good.

Staff: very friendly, very good

Looking for JAPOW and having explored Niseko and Nagano before we decided to give it a try. The hotel is a big hotel rather than a lodge for those who may be used to smaller places. Customer service was great, rooms were spotless, well cleaned, and big. We had a great view of the slopes. Loved having a small kitchenette. Onsen was great, separate men’s and women’s sides. Gym was terrible (it’s only a tiny room maybe 1x6 metres with hardly any resistance equipment. See photo), no club lounge BUT they allow elite members to use a special section of the bar by the restaurant and provide a free menu of items (see photo) that you can order as many of as you want. The service was friendly and fast initially, but follow up service is a bit slower. Breakfast was great and lots of options. We had dinner at the buffet 3 nights and it was good, lots of nice seafood and great to have crab legs - well worth the price. Ski lockers downstairs are good, and having a Seven Eleven near the front of the hotel makes getting snacks convenient. You have to walk from here about 200m to a ski lift, but that only takes you to a slightly higher area, from there you have to walk to other lifts. Not a particularly snowboard friendly set up. Definitely not ski in/ski out. Other options are taking the monorail from inside the hotel across the road to the other side of the mountain which requires less walking but it’s REALLY slow. Once on the mountain the runs are small and over pretty quick but the runs through the trees and side-pisting in the deep pow are loads of fun.

We had five nights at the Westin. The location is fantastic. Grab your skis from the locker and walk outside into the snow. Or catch the monorail to the other resort and ski at night. Wonderful views, big rooms, helpful and friendly staff. You can charge everything back to your room, including at the other resort (take your room details with you). There's a good mix of skiing available. It is a ski in/out hotel, and you pay for that privilege, but it's value for money. The free shuttle from Sapporo is good too.
The onsen is great. It was my second time to an onsen and I'm learning to really enjoy them.

The resort is perfect for family skiing, given the range of terrain that it offers beginner to intermediate skiers. It allowed our kids to have loads of fun despite a variance of ski levels.

The 5 person, bi-level room allowed us to have loads of space and the welcome gifts (local snacks) were a great touch.

2 small areas to consider: during the next big upgrade, can an in room washer and dryer be added, plus inform guests early to make dinner reservations so as to ensure that they have a hassle free time at the resort

First time to Rusutsu and decided to stay at the Westin. Rooms were quite spacious and of course clean (as always in Japan). Onsen was sufficient and good after a day of snowboarding. Regarding the rooms, quite interesting was the fact that based on the room rate you paid, you would either receive linen & sheets for the murphy wall beds or you’d have to pay extra for them for each night. You could still use the beds but would have to do so without sheets. All the rooms are bi-level lofts so expect some stair climbing when using the bathroom if you are staying “upstairs.” Breakfast was decent. Pretty much had everything you need. The Japanese restaurant on the second floor was a bit over-priced & service could definitely improve. Many activities available at the resort from snow rafting to Mongolian lunch bbq in igloos. To reach the slopes you either took the short tram ride to the Rusutsu Resorts or take a 10 minute walk. More food options at Rusutsu Resorts however due to countries slowly opening up after Covid, some options were still limited or else closed early. Overall a pleasant stay with the family.

I'm really sorry for our late reply. 1. The airport shuttle, please book our "Big Runs Go". This is the direct shuttle bus from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo. 2. Free bus to Sapporo, the bus stop is near the JR Sapporo station (Kita 4, Nishi 4). Again I'm sorry for our late answer and we hope this information is still helpful for you.
