I don't often give 5 star ratings, as my readers know. This, however, is a place that deserves it in every way. We have been coming to this part of Italy for years, and I have been to this lovely agriturismo before. Frankly, I am reviewing it now, reluctantly, because it is a place that I want to keep off...

We stayed for just two nights. The grounds were beautiful and the house was fascinating due to its age and structural facets. But, there was just one other couple staying there. We dined alone each evening and each morning. Tony was there and he was quite friendly, but he was also very busy running his business. His family was gone....

Our visit was less like visiting a hotel, more like being welcomed into an Italian family. We stayed for 4 nights over 2 weekends. The accomodation is rustic: a beautiful, charming, idiosyncratic old farmhouse. The rooms are basic - stuffed with beds - but surprisingly comfortable. The food could not have been more authentic in that we sat down with...

Toni & Paola - what a team. Toni has the gift of the gab in English as well as Italian, grows some of the best food and white wine I have ever tasted. Paola is a natural in the kitchen - her food is some of the best I have ever tasted - simple but expertly prepared and seasoned. Taste...

Toni and Paola are great hosts, the accommodations are top-notch, the donkeys fun and the kids interesting. The food is earthy and honest, the wines excellent and the value suberb. Lots to do in the area as well as just kicking back, enjoying the wine, having a smoke and letting life roll by. Highly recommended.

Our holiday had started with an issue in regards to hiring a car so at the last minute we had to change our plans and take the train to Udine. Although not arranged previously Toni was more than happy to go out his way and drive the half hour to pick us up from the Train station. This was the...

my husband and I owe it to Tony and Paola to attempt to convey how extraordinary it is. Lets start with either- the bower of white roses over the front door, or the donkeys in the back yard. You have driven from the Trieste Airport through the vineyards of eastern Friuli, crossed the Canal Grivo, parked your car in front...

This was one of two agritourismo stops we made during a late Sept. trip. The accommodations were very different, so in some respects they cannot be compared. We stayed here because we had been told by friends that we must visit Aquilea, but we didn't want to stay in Udine or Grado. If you are unfamiliar with this area of...

This lovely agriturismo is unlike any other place I have ever stayed. It's magical - a beautiful large, stone house, adorned with wisteria and rose vines in front, gardens in back (including a few sweet donkeys), vineyards across the street and surrounded by mountains - and a step back in time. The house is furnished with a mix of antiques,...

Casa del Grivo' is a truly unique and beautiful place to stay. Located in the hills of Faedis, just a few minutes from Udine, a half hour from the pre-julian Alps, and an hour or so from the Slovenian border, it is a rustic inn that is welcoming and warm. There is a lovely garden in the back yard, a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our house is a typical farmhouse build at the beginning of ‘900. It’s situated near a hamlet among vineyards and sweet chestnut tree woods n Colli Orientali del Friuli, 18 Km from Udine, at an altitude of 200 meters (650 ft). It’s built using local stones and wood and we have renovated it using natural materials, colours and varnishes, already twenty years ago. We have typical and old Friulan forniture: in the dining room there is the fogolar, the fireplace for the wintertime; the seglar (sink) hand made in stone in the kitchen and the spolert (cooking stove) to cook slowly over a wood fire. ... more   less
