Travelling round Sri Lanka for 2 weeks, staying in various establishments, this was by far the best. The calm atmosphere, fabulous decor, and feeling of feng shui was amazing. The rooms were lovely, the food fabulous, and the staff wonderful. The young lad ( i can't remember his name) who seemed to do everything was fantastic. In fact I began to think there was 3 of him as he was everywhere to attend to your every need. They organised a safari for us on the first day, providing a packed breakfast and lunch which were excellent. They even included cans of beer for the lunch. We left at 5am and there was a cup of tea for us before we left. We spent the second day relaxing by the pool, and one of our party went on a birdwatching trip (again organised by the owner). Excellent value for money. I have no idea what is in Tissamaharama as we didn't want to leave the hotel after the safaris. I notice on a few reviews people are commenting that their rooms weren't cleaned. If you are only there for a couple of days does your room NEED cleaning. If it does you must be very messy people.
Back to the food. The menu was limited, but it's quality not quantity that matters. The Sri Lankan breakfast was very spicy (too hot for me) but the rest of the group thought it was wonderful. I cannot praise this place highly enough.

We spent three nights here, loved it so much, we would have liked to stay much longer. The whole compound emanates a wonderful calm and serenity, is very tastefully designed, the pool area across the little village street very inviting, clean, and set in a lush green garden. The Lake is right next to My Village, inviting for beautiful walks with the most spectacular bird sightings!
Breakast and dinner were a feast, including fruit and desert. I recommend the set of curries! Yummy!
Last but not all least is the staff. Mr. Justin runs the show in a perfectly unpretentious, professional, and warm manner and treats the junior staff with same respect as the guests. We booked our one-day safari through him and I am very glad we did. He packed us a lovely breakfast and lunch and our driver Mr. Paty went out of his way to make sure we had a spectacular day.
One recommendation: book only a half- day tour. You cannot leave the vehicle at all except during lunch break and it is rather long to be crammed in the vehicle for 12 hours. And even in half a day you get to see eveything there is to see.
Borrow the bikes which are available for free and ride around the lakes and temples. Great fun and very relaxing activity!

The owner of this hotel was super professional and also wants to keep commission hunting people for the safari tours for the Yala National Park far away.
He truly understands how to keep the image of the area clean.
The staff that’s working there is great too 👍

Walking through the door you enter a courtyard built around an Egyptian design theme, with artefacts collected and ingeniously placed by the host. The whole place was open and airy. The host was very welcoming despite our later-than-expected arrival. We were whisked up to our comfortable and delightful room, which had some thoughtful and artful touches in the separate bathroom and upstairs lounge area. The host and his assistant cooked up a storm for dinner and repeated the delicious experience at breakfast the next day. We used the bicycles for a pleasant tour of the lake and nearby village. The whole experience, the design of the building and outside area, and host’s personal touches were very different to the more usual guest houses and hotels we’ve seen in our travels in the area. I can’t recommend My Village highly enough.

We couldn't speak more highly of our 'My Village' stay, Sujith the host was always so accommodating (we had two packed lunches ready and waiting for us at 4.30am for our early morning Safari which was a nice touch). The food at the restaurant was lovely and very tasty (not to mention the generous portion sizes and cheap price).

The swimming pool was also a big bonus, warm, lovely and clean and there was also plenty of space to lounge in the sun once you got out. If you're looking for a place to stay in Yala then I'd recommend 'My Village' as it ticks all the boxes. For a very good price as well. 5*

Thanks
Sam

We booked My Village as somewhere to stay near Yala National Park, however it turned out to be much more than a base for a safari trip.
As soon as you enter the discreet entrance you are greeted with an upscale jungle sanctuary and a warm welcome from the polite and attentive staff.
It is an experience rather than just a hotel with a cool, relaxed vibe, artistic touches and comfy nooks for reading or relaxing. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet with efficient air conditioning.
We ate our meals at the hotel as there is not much choice nearby, but they were all delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced.
The staff were really helpful, they organised our safari and our onward transport at reasonable cost. We particularly loved the packed breakfast we took on safari, in a My Village branded box.
We loved our time there and recommended it highly.

The 4 of us stayed for 2 nights at My Village and we really enjoyed our time there!
Justin was a superb host and he really made us feel like home.
The food he and his team prepared was delicious and the accomodation very relaxing.
Via the accomodation we also booked our half day safari tour to Yala national park. All well organised and Justin prepared us a delicious breakfast bag for the trip.

Wishing the whole My Village team all the best for the coming weeks/months and hope the guests will keep on coming during these “difficult” times. We really recommend it!

Best regards,
Evelyne, Lene, Maxim & Michaël

Calm, relaxed & extremely well kept garden/pool area. Owner, Sujith was attentive & friendly helped us organise a Sarfi, packed breakfast, and taxi at good price. Food was delicious, generous & a more than fair price. Our room was spacious, cool & though next to the shared garden still quiet.
The area is green, full of nature & near to a lake so there are mosquitoes, luckily Sajith keeps the incense burning constantly to aid keep them at bay (smells so good)
During our stay there were bikes available to nip out to local restaurants/shops which were a nice bonus - we went around the lake too.
My Village was an amazing escape. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you team, Hattie

Τhe best place we stayed at on the island. It comes straight from a tropical fairy tale. The colors blend perfectly with the landscape and the architecture of the building is wonderful. The breakfast was very tasty and filling! The pool is very calm and atmospheric. On the second night, our tuktuk broke down and the owner made sure that the best and nicest mechanic came the next day early in the morning to repair it for us, which he did. The owner also arranged a safari for us and our guide there was also excellent (among others we saw 2 Leopards !!!) The place works perfectly and the owner was one of the most authentic people we met on the island!

Carefully and beautifully run small hotel, boutique is probably the best word. Lovely open dining area, good sized rooms with AC and fan, wonderful helpful service. And truly delicious food. The Sri Lankan breakfast - curried vegetables, coconut sambal, dahl, string hoppers, regular hoppers, properly good tea and coffee - is ENORMOUS. And the most authentic and well-spiced food we’ve had in our first week in the country. I can’t believe this place is only No. 2 in Tissa’s places to stay (at the time of writing this). How could anywhere else beat it? ‘Nuff said. My Village is great. Enjoy!

Room Tip: We slightly struggled with the large and fairly hard pillows. Consider bringing your own?
