The location may be far from the town but then you can spend a nice and quiet stay on the edge of the Yoda Lake. The cabanas are gorgeous ! Very spacious, well designed, very comfortable... It's a unique experience !

From here you can take a walk around the lake and meet with the local faune (cows, iguanas, birds, buffles... ) 😉

The host and his assistant are helpful people, they may just need to improve their rates (restaurant, driver, paddle,...) and the cooking...
Since the place is far from everything (though the host offered to lend us his scooter), you have no choice but to stay for dinner... But the food is so-so and expensive (and the beer was thrice the normal price !). As for the breakfast, it was the worst we had during our trip : omelette sandwich, fruits and a bottle of water...
Plus the host appointed a friend of him to drive us to our next destination... The price we paid was a rip off compared to what we paid other drivers during our journey.

I have nothing more to say than the fact that I was total ripped off safari wise!!
I compared with South-Africa -where I live- who has amazing safaris at a far lesser cost, nevertheless being a much more expensive country as a general.
They charged 35000 SLR and a 2000 SLR was given as discount , which is peanuts.
I accepted having no other option with my last min evening booking for the next day.
On the safari I found out it is the owners vehicle and dedicated driver, which they don't tell you. It means they push for their own safari and can say what dictate the price as they want if you have no other reference.
After the safari, having found out what I needed, I did contact the owner on multiple occupations and left an sms to totally review the price charged, as it it his vehicle and is not subcontracted.
He didn't respond.
I paid between 2-3x the price of what it should have.
This situation is not unique in sri lanka.
It is valid for anything you do as a foreigner, unless you are well prepared and informed about their fees. because quick money with ignorant travellers is prevalent.
The accommodation itself (a basic category but with a peaceful environment) is lovely and the service was great, even though there was no room service for the 2 nights I stayed

We have had a super time at the cabana’s and actually booked more nights because of that. Team is really helpfull and from the first moment you arrive you feel like they think with you to make it the best time possible in the Yala area. They even went out of their way by taking us to the local festival Perahera. All in all, super stay and certainly would recommand this to anyone!😊

My sister and I stayed here a couple nights ago and it was fantastic and better than imagined. On arrival we were given complimentary coconut water in coconuts which was lovely. The room were very clean and you could tell they had been designed to accommodate every need, the bed was very comfortable. They arranged a boat ride on the lake which was beautiful, however it was slightly expensive, yet this wouldn’t stop us doing the boat ride again because you got to see so many species of birds and got to take beautiful photos. The staff were very attentive and gave us lots of free bottles of water and arranged our safari to Yala to every last detail including an experienced guide, binoculars and traditional Sri Lankan breakfast and lunch, which was delicious. We were going to be taken on a trip for free to see the flying foxes which we were gutted we missed but if we ever stay again (which we definitely would) we’d love to see them.
They even organised us a taxi to our next accomodation with a complimentary avocado smoothie - once again amazing.

We stayed at the cabanas for a night before going on our safari and it was great! The cabanas have been so well done, with hot water, wifi and a nice big bed and TV- it had everything we needed. Our hosts were amazing- making sure we were ok to find the place, organising the safari and taxi the next day for us, and they also put on a really nice dinner by candlelight which was a great surprise. They were really friendly hosts who did everything to make our stay great. It was located only 20mins or so to the national park entrance. Would definitely recommend.
