We were lucky enough to find this hotel by chance on a climbing trip. The owners are friendly and very hospitable. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable. But the best is the restaurant - which is excellent.
We arrived exhausted after a walk from Castellane along the GR4. We were immediately disappointed we had chosen to stay in the gite rather than the buzzing Lou Jas. Locals come and go. Walkers enter tired and worn, ready for a beer and good meal. The motorcycle dudes are checking out the small town. And the smartly dressed, older clientele are also about, passing through for an evening with their cars. I can't say enough good things about this place. The pizza is delicious and the owner and staff were incredibly welcome and kept the beers coming. There is a special spirit and spark to those that work here. Andre, the owner, is one of those rare humans you have the great pleasure of meeting when you travel. Someone that restores your faith in strangers and allows you to think, that the world isn't quite so bad, especially in a tiny town of Soleilhas. Also, BiBi the dog is very cute. Sing his name and he'll sing back.…
Walking some of the GR4 in a party of four with one dog, we were en route to the Verdon Gorge and took the route from Entrevaux to Soleilhas . It was a long but beautiful walk. All arrived tired. The welcome from all at the Lou Jus was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were just right, charming and well equipped, with wi-fi and clean en suite facilities. The evening meal was excellent ,a Buffet salad bar then Boeuf en Daube with gnocchi , served with a very nice local wine, followed by a good choice of puddings. All served with the owners evident warmth and charm. The following mornings breakfast was one of the best we had along our way and set us up well for the walk ahead, thoroughly relaxed and refreshed.
