We have stayed in this hotel several times but not for a few years. One of the attractions for us is that dogs are welcome! We were pleased to find that there has been some renovation of the accommodation. We had a very pleasant comfortable room which was suitable for 'easy access' as they say today, although like many other...

The core of the hotel is an early Victorian house but has been tastefully expanded over the years. The bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable beds, and most have a small balcony and overlook Ullswater. The bathrooms are also of a very high standard. The hotel has got excellent public rooms with a good selection of sofas and log fires....

Stopped off here for one night on a return journey from Scotland back South and could have stayed longer. The room and hotel in general was of a good standard, well maintained and appointed, with efficient and friendly staff. The meal taken in the snug bar was good and breakfast was lovely with fabulous views out to the water. The...

It is difficult to find a luxury dog friendly hotel but this is definitely one of the best. Originally we were booked into a non- dog room due to a failure of communication with the management but when we arrived they soon sorted it out. We were located in a ground floor room with French doors out to the beautiful...

We stayed here for Valentines weekend 2015. The hotel and grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and we had the most amazing view from our room. The staff were fabulous, we adopted the head waiter and fingers crossed he will be there again for our next visit! The food was beautiful and the staff were very attentive with nothing being too much...

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend, it was great, very peaceful. I was really impressed with the polite staff and good food. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and I was delighted with dinner served in the restaurant (it is worth making booking fist). The hotel has really lovely warm atmosphere that you can enjoy in two reception rooms...

A short break the week before Christmas, booked directly via the website on a DBnB basis. We knew about the floods in Cumbria and phoned to check the status before we set off. Parking at the hotel was easy enough, there are spaces just over the way from reception with further parking round the side. Shortbread and sherry was offered...

Four days before I'm due to check in and MacDonald hotel group call me and tell me he booking is cancelled because roads have flooded. They've known the hotel was going to be closed for the past eight days yet only thought it appropriate to call me four days before check in. Their website hasn't been updated to mention that...
