This hotel was selected by friends to celebrate a special birthday occasion. The hotel is a former cottage and has obviously been extended, modernised and re-developed by the current owners to a very high standard. The original cottage houses the central area of the hotel with the bar area very much a typical country hostelry. The dining room is a...

We booked in for one of the new rooms built on the side of the pub. Really ice modern room and very comfortable. We made full use of the facilities, swimming, steam rooms and some pampering treatments for the wife. Followed this with a few drinks in the bar chatting to the friendly regulars. After a shower and freshen up...

....to make a good first impression. And what a fabulous first impression we had. A very warm and genuinely friendly welcome from Izzy. Big smiles from Stuart. Shown straight to our room. Smallish but immaculately clean with a big and very comfy bed. Big bathroom. Down to the bar for a few drinks. Asked about the draught bitter. "Try before...

Stayed for 1 night, 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 9. We stayed in the log cabin which was great. Two bedrooms, bathroom, a lounge and kitchen. Plenty of space, clean and comfortable with all the extras that you get in a hotel. Soft towels, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel plus tea making goodies. Food throughout the stay...

Excellent value lunches Monday to Friday from sandwiches to full roast dinner up until 2pm main menu from 6pm really good and bar serves real ales and fine wines at reasonable prices. Good for couples as there are quiet areas and for families, there is a play area at the rear.

So for those that have read my previous damning review of Gamekeepers Inn (and those that haven't may wish to for context) the fine people at Long Ashes have made it right. I was contacted by the manager Stuart and offered dinner, bed and breakfast on the house to make up for the ordeal. Now having 4 kids the opportunity...

Well what can I say about this that the title doesn't already say. The roast beef served pink with all the trimmings was absolutely superb and the 3 of us could only manage the one portion of Dave's sticky toffee pudding which was as equally delicious. All in all a really lovely meal served by the equally lovely Sarah and...
