The entire resort is situated in a private beach front location, just South of the airport. The proximity to the airport isn't adversely affected by the sound of the planes arriving or departing, in case that's a concern. It does, however, help to get to the airport, without much traffic congestion, and in less than 15 minutes time.

It's also closer to the SkyBridge and SkyCab rides, which allows one to arrive earlier, ahead of the crowd and the Noon heat.

It's ready to walk to the nearby independent restaurants and shopping just outside the front gates, and also along the beach front walkway that leads to most water sport vendors just past the Resort's boundary.

We chose to use the in-house events coordinator to book our private boat for the "Island Hopping" itinerary, since we preferred the freedom to modify the length of time at each site, or even skip some of the "stops" on the tour. It was best to wait until early afternoon (2 pm) and avoid the crowds of boats funnelling into the same beaches and mangroves.

There are 2 separate buildings for breakfast, nearest to the Beachfront pool. One is a European Continental buffet and the other is more Asian themed. We preferred the Asian variety, but still enjoyed the European offerings in the other building, such as shakshouka and hash brown points. Both locations offered hot coffee/tea and soups with ample pastries and sides, as well as made-to-order freshly cooked items.

The hotel room was comfortably sized, with a large shower area, separate tub and L-shaped closet/luggage area and mini safe. The rear balcony overlooked the pond and provided a drying rack for swimsuits and towels. The Lakeview location was a quieter refuge than the rooms closer to the pool and beach.

I would've preferred that the shuttered windows had screens on them, but at least during our stay, there were no issues of bugs flying into the room at night.

The A/C managed to keep us cool enough, but I'm not sure how it'd fare during high 90°F/35°C temperatures with high humidity.

There is a mini fridge with 2 bottled water carafes provided daily, as well as sodas/juices for sale. There are no microwaves, however, in the room. There is a Netflix and YouTube option, and the hotel info menu on the TV.

Having been a regular visitor to Pelangi since 2003 up to COVID times, we were concerned that that extensive renovations may have taken away some of the unique character of the place, but have to say, the room upgrades, improvements to the main lobby and the two restaurants have made a great difference. The rooms are lighter, the beds and bedding is all new, the air conditioning has been greatly improved the two restaurants are much brighter and better equipped to cope with the weather conditions. All the staff (from front desk, restaurant staff, gardeners, security staff, chamber maids, concierge and pool attendants) were very friendly and welcomed us back. Breakfast at the Pelangi Grill were wonderful. We had a few dinners at the hotel which were quite acceptable, but the hotel faces quite a challenge from the many restaurants outside the hotel in terms of price, quality and value. We love staying at Pelangi, it is in a great location, great beaches which get cleaned and tidied every morning, the uniqueness of the style and layout of the chalets all make for a wonderful, relaxing stay.

We loved our stay at Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa. The resort is low rise and set in acres of well maintained gardens and lakes, right by the sea. Our room with sea view was on the first floor of a colonial style wooden building that is characteristic of the resort and very attractive in the setting. There is so much to do at the resort and the pools are magnificent, but it is a short walk into a shopping area with many tourist shops, mini marts, duty free and restaurants. The restaurants and bars at the resort offer great value but stepping out down the beach at night there is also lots of character, markets and interesting street food options on the foreshore.

This is our second trip to Langkawi and we chose to stay in the same Hotel , after our wonderful experience the first time.

Our first visit was somewhere in 2013 and we returned back after 10 years, as we loved our first visit there. We reached the hotel early around 9 AM and totally forgot the part where check in opens only by 3 AM. It was a long wait in the lobby for a few hours . There was one welcome drink served upon arrival, and nothing after that. Finally after we were checked in , we got to the room around 3 PM

The place has undergone some renovation over the last decade and somehow it didn’t seem as inviting as it was the first time The ceiling in the lobby and the rooms had a nice rustic feel and look with the wooden beams, adding warmth and character. However with the recent make over , it is all painted white and has lost its charm The floor in the room was a total put off , it seemed to be laid with cheap wood which bent wherever there was heavy furniture like the bed and the couch . It did hurt our feet when walked barefoot and floor itself appeared over polished and so slippery The warmth and grace of these halls have certainly dimmed a lot . we felt the customer service has certainly lost the taste .

Room cleaning service was sub par . We had left our used Tea mugs , they were not washed .Toiletries sometimes were not replenished .

The location of this hotel though is in its proximity to the airport . The hotel boasts of a private beach and this is a winner if you choose to stay in one of the sea side villas .This hotel is also 10 mins walk from the Pantai Cenang street which is bustling with shops and many eateries . so there is no need to stick to hotel dining if you want to explore different cuisines .

The original cascade swimming pool had a nice kids section with a slide and some water splash areas . But this is now renovated to mirror the horizon pool.

The hotel also offers water sports activities , but it is much cheaper to avail packages from Pantai Cenang street . There are buggies to transport you to and fro from your room to the lobby .

Dear Concorde007, Thank you for your review. Yes, check in time is 3pm but if room is available, we do accord early check in. Unfortunately, we were fully the day before you arrived. We had to wait for guests to check out before can clean and get your room ready for you. As informed by our staff, you can use hotel facilities while waiting for the room. As for our refurbishment, damned if we do and damned if we don't. Our owner invested quite substantial to refurbish and refresh the whole resort and based on our survey, majority of our returnee guests are pleased with the new look and feel. We take note of your sentiment and will look into improving further wherever possible. With kind regards, Neoh Kean Boon General Manager

We arrived from Langkawi airport by taxi at around midday and the reception was awesome. The Taxi booth is just outside the airport on the left hand side and fixed price of 30 MYR which we thought ok.
Una our receptionist ran through the Resorts features and various eating and drinking areas.
The Island view room was not ready and so we headed to another part of the Pelangi Lounge where we ordered some drinks and snacks under a comfortable ceiling fan.
Una came over a couple of times to inform us of the progress of the room and eventually it was ready at around 2pm and we were taken to the room by buggy with our luggage and we were pleasantly surprised with the renovated room which was on the ground floor as we requested. The room has a really nice feeling and set up with a nice bar/coffee making area. The fridge was empty but you could could purchase a package from in room dining. For 55 MYR you can get 4 beers, 2 juice, 2 soft drinks, noodles and nuts and chips. We ordered this a couple of times during our visit as we thought is was good value especially for a hotel.
The balcony area had two comfortable chairs and a table and a hanger for drying bathers etc.
We had a choice of two breakfast areas and we opted for the Pelanghi GRill as it seemed more open bright and had a nice outlook of the beach and sea. The food options were great and we started each morning at the egg station and worked our way around the buffet. We usually finished with a glass of sparkling wine and orange which felt special.
Our favourite spot for lunch was the Pelangi Lounge were you could get a great selection of food and cocktails at reasonable prices.
Depending on our movements during the day we would eat our evening meal at the Pelangi Grill or take in room service.
I have attached the room service menu. The Nasa Goreng is awesome!
We felt that The Club which is an air conditioned lounge was not value for money for us.
The staff in all areas were helpful friendly and smiling and made the visit extra special.

One of the best hotel stay for me. Even better than MANY other luxurious hotels. The breakfast has the best noodle soup which I ate every single day for 4 days. The room was well litted and equipped with more than enough wardrobe space and drawers, and other important needs like umbrellas, a good supply of drinking water, etc. The size of the toilet is huge and has a bath tub. Room arrangement is so well organized. Balcony is perfect for drying clothes and is so spacious. The crew also says a lot about the management. Those I asked say they love the management and that they will work hard and never leave the hotel for other jobs. Well done!

The beach is therefore very suggestive (they could add some tools later because they were a bit few), the waterfall pool and the service to the deckchairs were very well organised, everyone was punctual and kind, the Asian restaurant near the reception was very friendly and well organised. Spiaggia a CATASTROPHE the worst restaurant I ate in during my entire stay in Malaysia, I don't have any good words to say about it, from the moment of ordering to the moment in which we were served the dishes on the two occasions that we were there to dinner lasted between an hour and an hour and a half, the menu proposal was absolutely not suitable for a 5 star, I would like to understand why you call it Pelangi Grill when the offer of grilled dishes is almost non-existent, rude and arrogant staff, the orders arrived incorrectly of inconceivable waiting times, we ordered linguine with pesto but evidently the chef doesn't know what linguine is, much less what pesto is, of which there was no trace, in the same dish they had reported the presence of asparagus which I couldn't find then on the plate and instead of changing the dish they arrived at the table with a pebble with the asparagus on the side, pieces of raw cabbage and huge pieces completely separated from the pasta, they removed the dish from the bill after a lively discussion at the cash register in which one of the surveyable people (a lady of a certain age) looked us up and down with an arrogance that I have never seen! But what kind of restaurant is this! Then I saw the waiters intent on laughing among themselves, mocking us. To forget, I recommend changing chefs and staff, and don't try to propose European cuisine if you are not able to execute it correctly.

The Pelangi is a sprawling resort set on a wide and long beach.
it is made up as a village, wooden cottages with ground and upper floors clustered together and separated by lanes. There is a very convenient internal shuttle service with electric mini cars that takes you from one side to the other of the resort, for instance to the fitness centre wich is located right at the tip of the beach. We enjoyed a club accommodatiom that carries a number of privileges like a private space where you can enjoy drinks all thru the day and evening cocktails. The rooms are very large, with a very comfortable bed, a couch and chairs, a fridge, a safe, coffee facilities. Each room has a large outside deck with a table ,,two chais and a stall where to hang your washing to dry. Bathroom is very large with a tub and a walk in shower, toiletries and slippers. We did not use the swimming pool but it looked great and crowded..Food quite good, as malaysian food usually is, though a bit boring as we stayed 6 days and the menu was always the same. You can reach town if you like walking along the beach to enjoy some shopping and to try some restaurants..

Stayed with family (8 of us)
Positives - location is excellent, right on the beach- views from the restaurant are fabulous.
Where this resort has been renovated it’s excellent. The pool areas are fabulous.
The grounds are beautiful and very well kept.
The spa was good and the services we received were good but the spa is very over priced for the area - nearly $200 aus for an hr massage and hr facial)
Buggies around the resort were great and useful during the rain.
The majority of the staff were pleasent.
Negatives- they upgraded ( without being asked for) 2 out of the 4 couples- we all booked and checked in together- the upgrade was welcomed but wasn’t the greatest approach to a family of 8.
Checking in was slow and some of the rooms were not ready untill 4.30 ( and only after we complained)
Rooms are dated and in need of some tlc.
One garden view room was a view of a dirt road.
Be prepared for cats and dogs , lizards and the odd rat to be roaming around the resort ( only the rat bothered us - though the fighting dogs st 5.00 in the morning was a bit of a pain)
Breakfast is poor - maybe we have been spoiled at other resorts but the food is cold and the selection poor. There is plenty of Asian choices. Awful coffee. The service is slow . We had to go looking for cups and t bags, use cutlery from other tables and not a t spoon in sight.
We ate dinner twice at the resort. On both occasions the food was served cold and on our last night 3 meals were sent back as they were cold on arrival- 1 meal was awful ( sea food platter ) and the others were very average. We did complain and we got a 50% discount on our last meal.
Service is very, very slow - over 1/2 hr wait for drinks and food at the pool and even then some meals forgotten about and never arrived. They have a buzzer system at the pool which we thought was cool - but most of the time we ended up ordering directly from the bar as they were buzzers went un noticed.
The was a shortage of beds around the pool area ( with the usual early towel reservation allowed- ‘reserved with a towel beds’ went unattended for most of the afternoon.
We did meet with the hospitality manager who listened to our concerns ( he spoke to us after we completed a 1/2 stat survey). He was very apologetic but quite honestly the food and service we received was poor for a 4* hotel ( it’s most definitely a 4* resort not 5).
There was a conference at the resort while we were there and it seemed that that took priority and staff away from the rest of the resort. The large influx of people attending the conference seemed put pressure on the staff and resources.
This resort has a lot of potential and if they keep up with the standard of the renovations it could be a 5 star resort provided they also focus on improving the breakfast, restaurant food and overall service.

On arrival the staff sat us down, gave us fragranced ice towels and welcome drinks. All very lovely, and comparable with the experience we had at the Kempinski at another location.

We were transported to our room by buggy. The room was very hot when we entered.

Room amenities and size are good. It was let down by a slightly lethargic air conditioning system and no cooling whatsoever in the bathroom. The shower head also had a fair amount of limescale. This might seem nit picky, but at this price point, especially when comparing with our 5 stars hotels, small details matter.

We asked for the hotel maintenance to check the AC- they came after a few hot hours.

Breakfast is near the lobby which was a solid 10 min walk from our room which was on the other side of the resort. Maybe I’m lazy, but I grew to resent this lengthy walk after a few days. A dedicated buggy service should be arranged.

Overall I liked the hotel. It was good value when comparing it with other 5 star hotels such as Kempinski. However minor improvements should be made.
