We had the pleasure of spending a few days with Vicky and Ted in May, 2006. Billabong is a wonderful B and B. We like to stay at B and B's when we travel and this is one of the best. The setting is peaceful, romantic and tropical. Nice touches like fresh cut flowers in the room greet you. Rooms are very private with their own porch and furniture. The decor is tasteful, warm and calming. Around the grounds, there are lots of flowers and the native birds are beautifully enthusiastic around sunrise. Our favorites were the Rainbow Lorikeets and Kookaburras. We liked the Flying Foxes (fruit bats) that appeared in the early evenings, too. Naturally, if you're out enjoying the early evening, be thorough with the repellent. This is true of all coastal Queensland.

Before you retire, Vicky will ask when you would like breakfast. They were great about early starts to get you to tours and reef trips (many tours will pick you up direct from Billabong and public transportation is close and easy to use to get to Cairns). When we had no pressing plans, 0830 breakfast worked well for everyone. Breakfast (Breky in Aussie) is a delicious and abundant treat. Vicky makes a beautiful presentation starting with a plate of local fruit (the custard apple and paw-paw are our favorites. Bright magenta Dragon Fruit is exotic to look at, but surprisingly milder in flavor than other choices. Delicious coffee (French or Italian Roast) is piping hot from the french press. Fresh squeezed orange juice is cold and tangy in a beautiful pitcher. Delicious muesli and yogurt are next, followed by tasty breads and croissants with butter and jam. Next come eggs and sausage and bacon if you aren't already full (my mouth is watering from the memory). The first day we partook of all of it, but on subsequent mornings, decided to stop before the eggs and sausage; we're easily stuffed. We always had plenty to eat.

There are two friendly dogs, Roxie and Chili. Chili is older and calm; Roxie can be an enthusiastic greeter so be warned. Vicky and Ted are very good about keeping her reined in. Roxie also loves a good round of fetch.

The only very minor negative and it is VERY minor is that Billabong is just off the glide path for Cairns airport and there are occasional jets on approach, but they're only moderately loud.

We will make a point of staying there again and make it our base camp for all of North Queensland.

We had a wonderful time during a two-day stay at the Billabong B&B. Vicky was a great host: briefed us on all the tour options and places we could go on our own. Very knowledgeable about the reef (she and her husband formerly operated a dive service). We awoke to a bird concert both mornings before our excellent breakfast prepared by Vicky. She also recommended our next place to stay which also turned out to be excellent.

This lovely little B&B was a highlight of our trip to Australia. The room was very comfortable and had everything that you would need, but it was the views from our veranda that made it really special. It is set in the most amazing grounds with their very own lake housing ducks and fish. It is well located, only 10 mins by bus to Cairns and conveniently situated for the Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail. There are a couple of lovely restaurants and a bottle shop only a short walk away and a beach. Ted and Vicky were extremely friendly and helpful and the dogs, Chilli and Roxy, made us feel right at home. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all in the most fantastic surroundings. Also, the 3/4 course breakfasts that Vicky prepared each morning were excellent!

After three weeks in Australia we knew we had found the most lovely, unique spot, the most genuinely friendly & helpful hosts in Ted and Vicky (you'd think we were the first people they'd helped).
The most stylish and attractive rooms, not to mention the healthiest luxury breakfast. We wish we had found this place sooner.

Stayed here in September 06 for four nights as the first stop on a mini tour of Australia. What a place to start! It is located a twenty minute or so bus ride from Cairns, in a lovely spot called Holloway beach. It is not a big suburb, but there is one excellent restaurant (Coolums), an idyllic beach bar next door (note the bar seems to shut early for us Europeans at about half seven in the evening) and a number of other small outlets.

From the moment we met Vicki and Ted (the proprietors) they could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The room was superb, and the breakfast exceptional. Plenty of nice and thoughtful touches - there was even a decanter of port in our room which seemed to be refilled every day as it was very pleasant to have a drink on “our” porch overlooking the billabong at the end of an evening.

Vicki organised a number of trips for us, all of which were excellent and good value for money – I’d urge you to use her knowledge, as there is so much choice in Cairns it saves taking a gamble and trying to decipher the good from the bad yourself.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the billabong, if it wasn’t for the fact we live on the other side of the world would regularly pop back for the odd long weekend.

The reason I stayed at this B&B is because of the great reviews I had read on this forum. I agree with all of the reviews on Billabong. It is the best place that we have stayed in & we could not fault anything. Everything was 1st class, it is really worth staying here, you would not be diappointed.

I have just spent a perfectly lovely, restful week here, and I was reluctant to leave! From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel welcome and valued, Janenne is such a wonderful hostess, nothing is too much trouble for her, I felt like I had found a new girl friend! The place is so serene and restful, set away from the hustle(?) of the street, I felt like I was on my own private hideaway. The food was to die for, the rooms so very comfortable and the hospitality is superb. I will definitely be back one day, thank you Janenne and Roxy

We stayed for three nights in December 2006 as part of our honeymoon, and were delighted with the fantastic location and hospitality of this bed and breakfast. The property is located in the quiet suburb of Holloways Beach and is approximately 10 minutes drive from Cairns and the airport. It is close to a number of tourist attractions such as the Kuranda Scenic Railway, Skyrail and Tjapukai Cultural Park.

As soon as you arrive Vicky and Ted make you feel as though you are part of their family. Vicky and Ted's two dogs (Roxy and Chilli) are real characters and provided us with no shotage of amusing memories.

Overall the quality of the accommodation was very good and represented excellent value for money. The breakfast' freshly prepared by Vicky was a gourmet feast matched by the idyllic surrounding of the billabong. We would thoroughly recommend this small bed and breakfast to anyone who wants a quiet location surrounded by nature.

The Billabong B&B is truly unique. The furnishings and ambiance are supurb. The B&B is next to a Billabong that is beautiful to wake up to. The breakfasts were fantastic and Janeen is an excellent host. We have traveled extensively in Europe and the US and the Billabong is probably the best B&B that we have stayed at. We were there for 5 days. I scuba dived for 2 days and my wife spent that time enjoying the Billabong.

I spent 5 nights in Billabong and had an absolutely wonderful time. Janenne made the most fantastic breakfast - I am now making bircher museli again!! The B&B is in the most wonderful location and Roxy the dog was just so friendly and sweet it was hard to say goodbye to her.

I slept very well all the nights I was there and I loved hearing the different wildlife sounds outside in the evening. I would definitely say that Cairns was probably one of the highlights of my trip and I am so glad I decided to stay at Billabong.
