I was pleasantly surprised upon entering our holiday unit. I loved the decor and colour scheme and the way the unit was presented. Most sea side holiday apartments come with florals and cane, but our unit came with clean line furniture and modern finishings. NICE!!!

One easy block walk to the beach. One/two easy blocks to Cairns bus and 2 lovely restaurants, one beachfront.. Older units but clean and fresh with a relaxing balcony. Super pool for the kids and bbq. We loved it. Peaceful - you should go.

These apartments are ideally suited to families who want to stay at a beach location away from the cbd without the frills and pretentious resort style facilities. Holloways Beach is a great location (mainly residential) with all necessary amenities. Pacific Sands compliments that with low key accommodation but all the necessary inclusions.

We were due to leave tomorrow on a holiday to FNQ. Our first family trip since 2012. When I got phone service back I rang the accommodation we had booked at Pacific Sands Holiday Apartments at Holloway's Beach to let them know we had been severely impacted by Cycone Debbie, that we had a huge clean up to deal with, and that we could not travel at this time. I may have cried a little because I was a bit emotional today. The woman was totally unsympathetic and told me that her friend in Proserpine had gone back to work today and that maybe I should do the same. She then proceeded to talk about the floods in Murwillumbah....not the current one, but the floods 27, or was it 28 years ago?....and all sorts of other rubbish, including that she would not be refunding any of the three night's accommodation I had paid for. I contacted booking.com and they also asked her about a refund and she said no. My friend who lives nearby went down to see the woman and was thrown out of the office. I would have been quite happy to travel at another time and honour the booking, or for her to keep a booking fee, but it was a straight NO. So amidst all the amazing stories of Queenslanders helping each other in difficult times, I'm afraid I have to be Debbie Downer and tell this sorry tale. Don't shoot me.....but I think in this case I might be warranted in giving the Pacific Sands at Holloway's Beach a big thumbs down!

Response from Janette O, Manager at Pacific Sands Holiday Apartments Cairns
Responded 26 May 2017
A full refund was given on 7/4. However the third party website did not change conditions of a non refundable, non transferable tariff conditions when contacted from day 1. Their case manager finally appointed on 7th April and after the refund a further 4 days to respond in a specific email that no commissions would be charged to Pacific Sands (11 April). This would never have happened when booking direct to me as I have always given the 20% deposit refunded in a life changing event, whether or not travel insurance is claimed or not taken out.

After spending the first three nights of my recent week in the Cairns area in a very good motel near downtown, I wanted to spend my final four nights in a location a bit out of town and close to the Coral Sea. I found this marvelous apartment complex online and was attracted by the price, as well as the large number of favorable reviews. My choice was borne out in an excellent manner! When I checked in, I was very pleased to meet Jan, the Resident Manager, who was very friendly and helpful. She indicated to me where I should park my car, and then walked over to the unit to describe some features to me. She was repeatedly quite pleasant during my entire stay. My apartment had two bedrooms (one with a queen; the other with two twins) so that a family of four could easily stay there. There was also a decent-sized, fully-equipped kitchenette, a small dining area, sitting area with a couch and comfortable lounge chair, small balcony, and a large bathroom. A very handy feature was the washer and dryer located right in the bathroom - a really money-saving feature which I used twice during my stay. Jan has cups of laundry detergent on sale in the office; each will do about two loads of clothing. The small balcony, which is common to the second floor rooms, is lovely place to have breakfast, or read, and enjoy the many varieties of birds, especially the cockatiels, which often fly by, emitting their loud squaks! Pacific Sands is within walking distance of convenience stores and a couple of restaurants, and the beach at Holloways is but a few minutes' walk, as well. My only mild complaint - I have mentioned in other reviews that the internet in the entire Cairns area is not especially good, and that holds true here as well. Another nice suggestion from Jan, the Manager was that I could rent an internet "dongle" that plugged into my computer, but she admitted that even their reception was spotty, and she suggested that I go use the free WiFi at a nearby beach restaurant (which also had good food) or drive five minutes away to a MacDonalds at a nearby mall. (I rarely patronize them in the USA, but the two "Maccas" that I visited both had good WiFi, and I could order iced coffee or a milkshake and surf the web for an hour or more! That was just another indication that this was one manager who had her guests' best interests at heart. Thank you, Jan if you read this! In short, I would gladly return here on a future visit to the Cairns area, which has become just about my favorite vacation destination, even though it is half a world away from my home!

Pacific Sands was like a home for us. the owner was very helpful. I had 2 teenagers and they were really comfortable and happy, which made our stay even more relaxing. rooms are very spacious and well lit. all shops and amenities are just about a 5-10 drive away, so you not far from them but not so close that a holiday gets noisy.
I would definately recomend all to consider these apartments. close to the beach... you can walk, and being inner roads ample fo free walking space. Very reasonably priced.

We had a 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen, bathroom with laundry facilities and a balcony. It was excellent value in an area that it not really built up and touristy. We hired a car so were not reliant on public transport so were able to save lots by staying here for $88 per night. Cheap as chips and clean with everything you need plus a very efficient and friendly manager Jan. Jan was able to help with a lot of local knowledge including recommendations for local car hire companies that we used and highly recommend also.

Firstly we had a great stay in this delightful appartment complex in a lovely hidden away seaside village, just North of Cairns Airport. The apartment is good sized, well furnished and comfortable. It has a washing machine and dryer in the large ensuite , with air conditioning in the lounge and main bedroom. There are fans in both bedrooms and the living room. The kitchen has stove, microwave, large fridge freezer and a dishwasher. There are the usual small electrical appliances. The supplied tableware tended to be a mixture of styles and just enough, requiring washing up after ever use. The swimming pool and BBQ area with 3 BBQs is very good and meticulously maintained. We made great use of the pool. The grounds are well groomed and planted. Jan, the Resident Manager, is very helpful and friendly. There is a good little shopping centre at one end of the street with an excellent takeaway, newsagents, mixed business, pizza shop and a bottle shop. In all honesty this property deserves four and a half stars and the few things that drop it from five stars were not Management's fault. Several neighbouring properties had dogs which liked to bark early on several mornings. Smoking is allowed outside on patios and balconies and when the tenant below us smoked, it came into our living room .
