This place is now called Jaspers Berry and is a wedding venue. We attended a venue a few days ago and the place was just amazing. Reminded us of an old colonial bungalow in South Asia. Tastefully furnished and amazing service. The staff went that extra mile to keep the guests happy. The food was served warm and just tasted great. Compliments to the chef and staff

First I would like to point out that this is no longer a Hotel, so all the reviews from 2012 are totally invalid and should be deleted by trip advisor. It is now a wedding venue, called Jaspers Berry under different owners. What a wonderful place - everything was perfect. :). The food was totally amazing (and we had made sure we catered for the few vegetarian friends who attended with special meals). The owners couldn't do enough and turned the ceremony area and the inside into an Autumn wonderland after my daughter gave them a photo from Pinterest to work with. I just cannot fault anything about the place, the food or the staff. Total value for money - not cheap but you got what you paid for in spades,

From what I have noticed from other reviews, I can concur with some of the dilemmas faced by other people. I am a person with dietary requirements, and unfortunately the wedding had a set, sit down menu. Although the staff did their best to accomodate, the meal served was not only not palatable but completely nutritionally void and incomplete. To attempt to cater for my culinary needs, the catering staff had literally thrown together a "dish", of Mediterranean antipasto vegetables, which were already marinated (drenched) in olive oil, and stir fried them with yet more oil, and as a result, the vegetable and kale were coated in grease and were unable to soak up any more. They finished the dish off by sprinkling it with pine nuts. This all started because I refused a tuna and cucumber sandwich canapé, saying I was "Vego". A girl interpreters this as "I'm vegan". While I appreciate the kitchen staff trying to be flexible to my dietary needs, a dish of already oily vegetables stir fried, with some sesame seeds and pine nuts on top is not a nutritious meal, nor a palatable one.

This was our second visit to this very pretty hotel, which is set in beautiful gardens and close to the Berry township. We made a second visit because we had such a nice experience the first time. The room was very pleasant and quite spacious, quiet, understated decor. However, the TV was small for the size of room and we were disappointed with the bathroom. For this price I would have expected better facilities, equipment and toiletries. It was also cold in the bathroom as the heating had been disabled - strange thing to do in Winter. I felt the standards had slipped since our previous visit. The breakfast spread is very tasty and is not the usual offering that you get in many places.

Last weekend we stayed 2 nights. The room was large and very comfortable although a quite pricey for what it was. Did not see the proprietors until check out when the bill was paid. In this modern age I was a little disappointed that there was no inquiry as to whether or not we had an enjoyable stay. I minor matter but it struck me as unusual. The important miss was during breakfast when a guest at my table asked for some mushrooms on the side of the eggs and bacon. Despite the fact that mushrooms comprised one of the available choices, he was told that the chef was not prepared to alter any aspect of the printed menu

Such a wonderful surprise. We didn't know what to expect but it was perfect. We were only able to stay for one night but from what we expererienced we weren't disappointed. The scenery and setting alone was beautiful, waking up to the countryside was bliss. A few small details in the hotel bedroom would have upped it to excellent, a few little things were perhaps overlooked i.e a little chocolate on the bed pillow. Our welcome to the hotel was fine, the owner was very polite and recommended some great restaurants for dinner that night. The hotel also has stunning gardens which you can enjoy at leisure, we didn't get much time to see all of it but what we did see was lovely. Breakfast was exceptional. The food was of such high standard, continental and cooked. The croissant bread and butter pudding was mouth watering. We would and will definately go back and we will be sure to take our parents with us. Berry is a cute little town with lots of fun things to do close by. Highly recommened for a little weekend away.

We booked for a three night stay at Woodbyne. This hotel is located just a few minutes drive outside of Berry, a picturesque and somewhat twee township about 2 hours drive from Sydney. The hotel is a boutique style type but much more a B and B. On the plus side, the gardens are truly beautiful with statues and fountains and magnificent hedges. The breakfast, which is included in the tariff is also very good and can be taken in the lovely garden. Sadly that is about as good as it gets. Our room, typical of them all, was quite plain and simple. The bed was very comfortable but our stay was spoiled by the fact that the curtains were not lined and as our room faced east, it was dazzling sunshine at 6.30am, not very relaxing. The bathroom was very ordinary - tiny acrylic bath, cheap fittings and devoid of style. If you are paying $330 per night, I expect to have a level of luxury not a level of a youth hostel. The information pack on the room, just some printed sheets in a ring binder youth hostel style, says things like " if you mark the carpet or rug, you will be charged" and " if anything is taken from the room you will be charged" . It seems like the owners are truly over it. There is an air of resentment and a touch of Basil Fawlty type management on offer. We chose to stay here based on the photos on the web, but the reality is very different. The pool is only slightly larger than a spa and not heated and VERY important, the gates are not working properly so those with children take note. The TV is tiny, smaller than my computer screen and there is no cable tv. There is very limited Internet access. An establishment like this should have wifi access and provide guests with the login code as well as decent TV equipment. It comes back to the price, if you are paying $330 per night, there is an expectation of quality. Unfortunately, Woodbyne overcharges and under delivers.

The town of Berry on the south coast of NSW is deserving of a hotel which is as beautiful as both the town and the surrounding countryside is. And such a hotel is right there. Woodbyne Hotel. I have stayed there several times over the last 10 years, and it is always a joy to return. The beauty of the place begins as one drives through the gates and winds up the gravelled drive, through the trees, to the hotel itself. The rooms are all suites with wonderful views from each one, across the fields at the grazing cows, or the other way toward the small river which adds to the restful ambiance. Superb breakfast, either inside or in the garden which is itself quite lovely. Beautiful grounds to wander in; plenty of garden seating which invites one to either sit and read, or perhaps, later in the day enjoy a chilled glass of one's drink of choice. It is so reassuring to have this standard of boutique hotel available - can't wait for the next visit!

My partner Joyce and I had the pleasure of staying at Woodbyne earlier this week and we loved it! Its a small Hotel, very private, with beautifully kept gardens you can stroll in or find a cosy seat and read for a while. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed and the bed is one of the most conmfortable one's we've slept in. As for the breakfasts.. cereal, fresh fruit, home made jams, and a variety of cooked breakfast ( bacon and eggs to die for!)...you won't need lunch!! We are regular travellers and often spend nights in B & Bs and small hotels, and Woodbyne has gone to the top of our list! If your looking for a place to de-stress and relax, try Woodbyne. You'll love it! Peter and Joyce

I am posting this a month or two after staying here as I can't believe the positive post I've just seen. My experience was not at all good, the service was surly and the room smelly.Hardly luxury as I expected. Don't expect much more than motel accommodation for your $330 a night! The breakfast was good and the best part of the stay. Would never stay here again.

Response from AnnetteMoore, Owner at Hotel Woodbyne
Responded 28 Jan 2012
We have no record of this person staying with us so we doubt its authenticity. We have hundreds of people staying with us who just love the place. So we can't be doing too much wrong. You can't please everyone all of the time and unfortunately those one or two persons who were not happy deem it necessary to post a tainted review. Most of our wonderful guests would not know that Tripadvisor exists.
