I stayed here in September whilst working in Basel. Only 1 person spoke English when I arrived which is unusual for me when travelling and I really must learn another language but normally everyone speaks English so has never been a problem before.
The room was on the ground floor and was a reasonable size with a good size single bed and a bathroom with shower which was clean. It was a very hot period for mid September, over 30, and the room had no a/c which made it very uncomfortable to sleep in. As it was a ground floor room overlooking the staff car park having the window open increased to disturbance due to noise.
Breakfast was good and there was a variety, eggs are cooked to order which is a nice touch. I tried to book a table in the restaurant when I arrived but was told that it was full that night so had to explore the area which has limited options f you do not have transport. On the 2nd night ate in the restaurant, I was told it was a restricted menu but I still thought that it was very expensive, over 50 euros for a steak and salad with 1 beer. When I looked at the full menu the following night before booking, it was even more expensive. That would be OK when coming out to dinner with friends for a special treat but not for a business traveller who needs his main meal of the day. The pool is outside and unheated so was very cold but the heat may have made it feel colder than it was but I was unable to swim in it. Overall it was OK but I will make sure to ask for a room with a/c on an upper floor next time if I return.
Nice room, very comfortable. Mattresses are quite hard, but ok. Breakfast was very extensive and at 12 euro an excellent deal. Super shower. Service very friendly, wifi worked well. And very affordable. And the restaurant is excellent!
Attending the Basel Watch fair I chose to stay at this hotel. Unfortunately they have the same mentality as all the other hotels in the area during fairs in Basel. They skyrocket their prices while the service is average. I mean to pay the price of a five star hotel to this 3 star hotel way outside Basel is just plain silly. But my bad. And whn the taxiride is 35-40 Euro to Basel for me it was not very good. Greed is soetimes a bit ugly and I am surprised they are not embarrassed to charge me over 300 Euro pr. night for a single room. The breakfast and food is very very good and lifts the experience slightly.
We booked this hotel on a business trip to Vitra Campus, and fell in love with this beautiful small hotel with the best gin coctails and fantastic food. The breakfast was superb, and the staff was amazing.
Chill down in the original Bar from 1930, and have a dazzling drink and sit down in the designfunitures from Vitra buy the fireplace. Dine outside in the sun by the trees, and enjoy the dinner in the beautiful restaurant.
Loved the chilled out rooms with a teddybear that you could borrow.
This rooms are refurbished from the 1960s, and have kept quite a few features of the time. So the hotel is an enjoyable mix of periods. This leads to some minor points such a no air conditioning in summer. Rooms are a good size and well fitted out with modern touches and style. The pool and garden are small but fine.
A key point is the very good restaurant, which offer discounted dinner for hotel guest and an amazing breakfast. One of the best anywhere according to adults and teenagers alike.
Staff and very helpful.
So if you want somewhere a little unusual this is a good place for you.
