I was travelling down through France with a friend to run an English Bookshop in St Antonin Noble Val in the Aveyron Valley and stayed for a night at this stunning chateau. The internal impression of the chateau is more appealing than the outside and the whole place has been lovingly restored over the past 14 years by a delightful Dutch couple. The owner could not have been more helpful and was happy to share her challenge of the restoration and her true desire to make this something very special. The rooms are spacious and elegant and decorated in the period of the chateau with exceedingly comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms with good quality toiletries and towels. We booked into the restaurant for the gourmand dinner and it was without doubt the best meal I have had for years. We had a fabulous table overlooking the parkland and the black sheep and the maitre d was exceptional. Knowledgeable about the food and choices, the wines, everything in fact. He was French but had worked in England and his English was impeccable. There is a wonderful terrace for breakfast and dinner and a great swimming pool. I was saddened that we were only spending one night at the Chateau as it would have been a blissful place to unwind and relax. There is no lift so not really suitable for those with disabilities, ample parking, quite easy to find using the sat nav and a good drop off point if you are heading south. I will certainly return. If you found this helpful, please let me know.…
This is lovely building a reasonable driving distance from St Malo and Caen. Our short stay was on a Monday when the restaurant was closed and looking round Challans there was nothing to recommend the town so we went to St Jean de Mont on the coast to eat which was a big disappointment, apart from a lovely beach! The hotel and grounds are lovely and the staff and breakfast excellent, and made a nice change from the more modern hotels on most of our trip.
The Chateau de la Verie is a delight. The elegant house is set in quiet and peaceful surroundings. The furnishings and comfort are excellent. The cuisine is outstanding. But it is the care that the staff take to make their guests feel welcome and relaxed that makes this chateau/hotel exceptional. A stay at the Chateau de la Verie is an experience not to be missed. We stayed with another couple of good friends for three nights. A fantastic chateau run by a lovely couple. The chateau and food are outstanding and the staff a credit to the owners. Helpful suggestions of places to visit and eat from Nienke were superb. It was our pleasure to spend time at your beautiful home and we are recommending to all our friends. A handy 2 1/2 drive from St Malo means it is easily accessible. We all had a fantastic time and can't wait to return.
We have just had 4 amazing days staying with friends at Chateau de la Verie. It has the most beautiful grounds, the setting is so tranquil and relaxing. Nienke and her staff are so lovely and helpful they couldn’t do more to make your stay idyllic. Both of us slept like babies in this hotel, the bed was so cosy and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and would’ve booked another night if they hadn’t been full. Our mistake! The food is some of the best we have ever eaten and we have eaten in some amazing places on our travels. This Chateau is a little gem and we are trying to find a date in the diary to book again soon.
