Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Love this place. Paul always gives you a warm welcome and the rooms are clean and comfortable, very good value. The bar area attracts friendly people to pass the time of day with and the staff are helpful and friendly. Booked for next year and can't wait.

We were very pleased to be back here after an absence of 2 years and yes the resort was quieter but showing signs of picking up. There's still a warm welcome here and Paul and his staff are so friendly and efficient and can't do enough for you which is why people return year after year. We stayed in apartment 3 on the top floor which is lovely and spacious and has the advantage of a lovely sun terrace. There's plenty of other rooms to choose from including a hostel area. The rooms are kept very clean and there is a laundry on site too. The bar area is comfortable and relaxed with people popping in and out all the time. We have booked already for next year and can't wait.

Stayed at Oasis with 2 buddies, we are all fom NZ. You couldnt find a more nicer and helpful bloke than Paul and lovely JinJin. His rooms were great, cool and clean. The bar was a regular meeting place and was like the united nations most nights, everyone was welcomed one by one by Paul. We are heading back there again and have no hesitation in where we are staying. Oasis. Loved the joint. Laundry was even great, smiles were even lovelier. "Lets go" 10 outa 10 for us 3 kiwis. Dougy, Bede & Paddy.

Relatively good stay - however Paul is not fit to manage a business. Upon arrival, I had to remind HIM to take my passport scan. I then asked to have him take my credit card details - he told me "not to worry about it".

I then had a drink at his bar, and asked him if I should run a tab while I stayed - he said that was fine, and I could pay on checkout.

The night before I checked out, around 2 am, he was drunk at his bar. He demanded I pay immediately at that time. He decided 2 am was the best time to tell me he wouldn't open the office until 9:30am and that he only takes cash. I immediately offered to go to the ATM, as I'm leaving he starts yelling at me.

I get the cash, pay up, assume everything is sorted, request a receipt, his GF working the bar gives me the bar tab. I take my girlfriend up to my room and assume the craziness is over. 2 minutes later there's a knock, I open to make sure all is settled. It's Paul, who barges into my room, ranting about "you can't have the BARTAB, you DON"T GET A RECEIPT, I'm going to kick you out of MY guesthouse! You and your girl!" He proceeds to act very menacing (inches from my face) and yell at my girlfriend as well.

He goes on a 5 minute rant about my nationality ( completely inappropriate) - and finally leaves. Very restless night, I couldn't stop worrying about him barging back in.

Take your risk if you stay here, Paul is a lunatic unfit to run a business.

Well I can't comment on the specifics of this guesthouse as we never got to see the room. Upon arriving after a long bus ride, our booked (and confirmed via email) room had been given to someone else who wanted to stay longer than we. Obviously much better financially for them to give the room to them instead of us. We weren't told of this until we tried to check in, far too late in the day to find other accommodation.

They thought it would be fine if they organised for us to be put up in another guesthouse across the street, a dodgy little joint with a single bed. Too late in the day to find elsewhere, we stayed there until the sun came up and left as soon as we could.

I hardly ever write bad reviews, and I'm sure the Travellers Rest is nice... But the service we received that day was appalling. I wont say don't go there, but maybe give them a call the day before you arrive and tell them not to give your pre-booked and confirmed room to someone with a bigger wallet.

Make up your own mind.

Well what can i say. An little oasis. The people who run this guest house and bar are fantastic. Paul and Gail made us feel really welcome. We were a family of 5 and they made the girls feel really welcome. I would recommend this place to anyone. The easy way to describe where it is, is next the the centara resort in karon Bay who all the taxis know.

Would just like to thank Paul and Gail for all they done. Cheer guys Kirsty & Paul

I would not recommend this place particularly if you are female. Paul has minimal control of his mood not a pleasant experience. I was given a room facing a wall was supposed to be staying for ten days but decided to leave. My sister had stayed one night before me to which I can only apologise to her. As I was cancelling two rooms, I offered to pay for a few days but he insisted on the whole lot and so aggressively, that I paid. Would never go near that place again.

stayed here for a weeks break , very very tired place , rooms not up to scratch, a.c. very loud and not maintained. generally run down , stayed there 2 years ago and it was nice unfortunately standards have dropped dramatically.
i really dont want to sound to off putting , but i feel i have to speak the truth.

Having been greeted at the airport by Paul (one of the two owners him and his sister) my trip was immediately set at ease, his knowledge and advice of the local area was invaluable to me. Upon arrival to the travellers rest I was shown to my room by Gail (Paul's sister) who was most welcoming. My room was extremely comfortable, clean, stylish and with all the necessary things you would need (a safe, TV, DVD player, fridge, air conditioning) the room was also cleaned daily to an extremely high standard and I have to say although I had a safe in the room on a few occasions I left money and other valuables out with no concern or worries the staff were great! Especially in the bar area, lovely warm welcoming smiles, fantastic food from aunty, I was made to feel welcome from the beginning and found it hard to leave at the end. I would certainly welcome the travellers rest to anyone considering staying there and will certainly be visiting them again however I will book direct next time!!

Rob aus(review F607YIroba)....what utter rot,I was sat there that night when you and your 4or5 cronies bumped into each other in the street with your 7/11 Chang beers then started smoking and blowing clouds of smoke all over the massage girls at the business opposite oasis until you were asked to move which you did, across the road to the oasis. You never entered the establishment whilst I was there, you simply sprawled all over the oasis laundry sign then started throwing your stinking cigarette ends on the floor at which point you were presented with an ashtray. The entire group of you then got very vocal and threatening, particularly the short, fat, bald one not wearing a shirt. The 3 of us that you delighted in calling c****'s actually live here Rob and we have unfortunately seen the likes of you all too often before....Bali for you next year we hope.
Anyway, the oasis is a regular drinking hole of many people around here,Paul serves great draught beer at reasonable prices and we often sit and help him empty a few glasses in a nice breezy spot and watch the passing entertainment.
PS Rob I also responded to your slanderous review on other sites.
