Stayed in this hotel for the 3rd or 4th time and always look forward to going back, rooms very spacious with full kitchen if you wish to eat in. The staff are very warm, friendly and very helpful with Minny, the manager extremely helpful. The resort is ideally situated a 10 minute walk to Karon beach with transport laid on to the beach and back every day as a courtesy. Well worth looking at if you plan to visit the area.

We had a good stay at the Phunawa resort for 2 weeks, the location was ok, it was about a 10 minute walk into the town and about the same to the beach but is situated up quite a steep hill, fine for us but anyone with mobility issues would struggle, there are plenty of taxis and tuktuks available however. We found it great value for money on the deal we found on Agoda and we all loved the big, warm pools.

Pro's: Great huge room, 2 separate bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen and a lounge with cable tv , great kitchen with all the utensils, glasses, crockery etc you need, the balcony was huge with a table and chairs and maiden for drying clothes, we enjoyed many nights sat out watching the lightening in the sky.
The cleaners came every day, the room was kept very clean, bed linen changed, clean towels provided and they even washed the few pots we left in the sink.
The pools were great, always a sun lounger available, pools a good temperature.
We didn't eat here other than at breakfast but the food looked ok from what we saw and the drinks we had round the pool were good.
The staff were lovely and happy to help.
Short walk (about 10 minutes) to a fantastic clean beach, the water is lovely.
The grounds of the hotel are well looked after, clean everywhere.

Cons: The hill up to the hotel is a steep walk, there are lots of signs warning "beware of stray dogs" most days we didn't encounter any issues but one day we did, when walking down to the shop my husband was surrounded by about 4 dogs snarling and showing their teeth he stood his ground and shouted at them throwing his hands up and luckily they went away, thankfully he didn't have the kids with him, he reported this to the hotel and for the remainder of our stay we didn't see them again, I'm not sure if anything was done or if we were just lucky not to see them again but be careful.
The breakfast was just ok, we didn't go for about 4 days as there was a swarm of bees around the jams and the drink dispensers, when I say swarm I mean literally hundreds and the staff didn't seem to do anything about it until a number of days later when they finally covered the jams which helped. The egg station was ok, few cereals to choose from, some fresh fruit which needs to be covered as there were ants on this sometimes, the sausage and ham was always cold, they had spaghetti bolognaise often with some noodles/rice and fresh salad. They did have a hot drinks dispenser which for some reason got taken away and replaced with 2 pots of coffee, no hot water until we asked for it.

Overall we had a great stay and we would return if we found another deal on agoda, room was great, the beach is lovely and we met and spent time with some fantastic local people in Phuket. (make sure to visit Mr Bean and his son at his street food stall outside 7/11 in the centre and we had many great nights at Sutin bar just down the road from Mr Bean, highly recommend)

The highlight of this hotel was definitely the staff. Mah (I hope you see this review Mah and friends) in the restaurant, patiently tried to teach us some basic Thai and the rest of the staff were always so welcoming and helpful. My son cut his leg at the beach and the lobby staff and driver could not have done enough to get us to and from a clinic, that they suggested, for stitches. Our room was huge and always well maintained. It would have been a 5 star review if the beds had not been SO firm! We really loved our stay here and it felt like a little home away from home. Thank you, Cathy

Terrible experience would not recommend! From checkin we were told to put down 2000bats deposit only by cash! No credit card. Putting deposit down is not a problem but this should’ve been advised before hand. If you didn’t have cash they hold on to your passport. Upon checkout, when we asked for deposit back they told us to wait 20min while our ride was already waiting outside and we were going to run late because they were taking too long We had to tell them to hurry up! Every single day we had to call down 2-3times due to maintenance issues in the room. Water stopped coming out, power outage, ac kept breaking down. They would fix it then couple of hours later it breaks down again. Water also has metalic taste so recommend bringing a water filter. Drinking water wasn’t replenished consistently. Breakfast was very mediocre, food has no flavor. We stopped going after 2days. Pools towels were not available several times so we had to use bathtowels in the room. When we requested for more towels it took over an HOUR to get it delivered. Pool was also not maintained well. We could only use portion of the pool due to all the leaves and dirt floating around. The hotel is also located up the hill and so it’s not very convenient. You have to walk up and down hills for 10min to get to closest convenience store and restaurant. I am usually not a complainer but had to leave a review because I also booked this hotel based on positive reviews on google but this is the reality. Would not recommend!

Staff are friendly polite know their work and the main people in reception speak good English. My wife had bed and breakfast and occasional snack in the restaurant. Room service is available. She and her friend did the fruit cutting and the staff were knowledgable pleasant friendly and enjoyed helping them even when they made mistakes. They found it a lovely light and informative afternoon. There are rooms around their two teir pools. Although there us room for upkeep on pools they were still good enough to swim in. Although not a poolside bar the restaurant and bar are in the centre of the top teir pool.

I will start by declaring we only stayed for one night of our planned 10 night trip. I want to still submit a review as I believe that the way a business handles their customers in a bad situation is often a very good reflection on the business. So here it is. We arrived at check in to find the pool was completely empty due to works being completed. The work also meant the the rooftop bar and breakfast areas were closed also. We had booked the 3 bedroom apartment with rooftop Jacuzzi. The roof top area is nice and a fabulous view but the external spiral staircase to access it meant it was not accessible for my mother and a little scary with my 2 young children. We also had an issue with a water leak in the main bathroom. I can tell the hotel will be fabulous when they have finished their upgrades but I suggest you call and check before booking.

I was disappointed with the work going on but it is low season so is the best time for the hotels to do these things and while prior notice would have been great it was the flexibility and helpful nature of the hotel that I want to say was fantastic. We stayed one night and had a fabulous breakfast brought to our room in the morning. That morning I spoke to the lady in the front office about my concerns with no pool or meals area at which time she did not charge us for the full 10 night stay that we had planed and she even helped us to find an alternative hotel and arranged transport for us to relocate. (We had a great time in Karon beach still and thanks to the Phunawa report for making what was a tricky situation much easier)

I have read the precious reviews and can see the hotel has made some improvements on the comments, it's a large resort so I imagine getting it back to its full glory will take some years. Positives are that the pool is crystal clear and clean now, looks to be all new tiling. It is lovely. The room we stayed in (penthouse) was really great! Clean, spacious, comfortable and safe. The air conditioning worked perfectly.
Breakfast was delicious with hot omletes, hot coffee, a range of fruits, croissants etc. Very delicious. Our staff were attentive and I found it very easy to communicate. I noticed some reviews spoke about the "English being poor', but this is not England and maybe that person should learn some Thai if its that easy to learn another language. The staff tried very hard to communicate in another language and we appreciated that.

Yes the hotel is a bit tired and needs some updating but at least they are working on that.

When we arrived we were very impressed by the efficiency of the reception staff and by the standard of our suite, which has a kitchen area, a lounge area with a flat screen tv and DVD player, a bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a lovely shower room with a rainfall shower.

The hotel is located up a slight slope but this is not a problem and there is a free shuttle to the beach if you don't fancy the 10 minute walk. We''ve walked back in the early hours of the morning and not felt unsafe or threatened in any way.

We had noted some mention of the breakfast being basic but this is not so, eggs cooked to order with bacon, sausage, waffles and another hot item each day. A full continental section has various hams and cheeses, together with salad. There's 8 different cereals, 2 breads and toast, croissants and danish pastries, fresh fruit salad, pineapple and melon, whole coconuts and 2 sorts of yogurts. There's 3 juices, fresh ground coffee and tea, and every morning, the waiter makes me a pot of my favourite green tea. What do these people want???

In short a lovely hotel I'd come back to in a heartbeat.

We arrived late and the staff were willing and waited for us to arrive. The room is magnificent and was upgraded (free of charge) to a Penthouse as we stayed for 7 nights with a break in the middle at Phi Phi Island. There is a kitchen, large lounge, bedroom and huge bathroom. very modern. This resort has outstanding service. We had no bad experiences and nothing was stolen. We did use the in room safe though for our valuables. The distance to town and beach is a 15 min walk so we hired a scooter. If you have had some experience on a bike, just rent one and don't worry, it's safe. 150 Bt per day is cheaper than 1 taxi ride to Patong. The place we rented one is where I would go. Follow these directions. When you go down to Karon Beach you will see a large roundabout. Veer perpendicular to the beach so you go up the main street.... restaurants, bars, ATMs etc. The street to take is the 3rd street left. You will know which street it is as there are a few motorbike rentals on the left when you go down this street. Also there is a white dog lounging around on the corner next to a lady and a bbq selling food. Go to the last bike vendor on the left as it has a massage for part of their business. You won't need to leave your passport with them for security. Just have a photocopy of it. (you can get one on the main street at the Kodak shop on the main street, 2 Bt). It's next to the Gun Bar (Girly Bar). The bikes all have numbers painted on the front of them. Look for J22. That's the bike we had, 135cc and its zippy, good tread and comfy. The other bikes need some service. The good part here is that the deposit is only 600 Bt. All the other bike vendors want over 1000 and one shop wanted 5000 Bt. Back to the resort. This resort is new! and they are continually maintaining it. The breakfast buffet was extensive and the chef lady is amazing. You will recognise her as she has captivating eyes. There are some reports of the water recycling plant next door and the noise/smell. Don't stress as its not noisy and only a faint smell if the wind is blowing the wrong direction. It's at the back of the resort. I parked the bike right outside the stairs to our room. The pool is nice and most people swim in the lower one with the waterfalls. There are a couple of balls to play with there too. The only comment I would make is that the kitchen could have a few more additions, like a dish cloth, tea towel and some more pans for cooking etc. The gas was also hard to switch and gave up (used the electric instead). Plus the spa button didn't work but I didn't investigate that properly. So in all it gets a top rating from me. And trust me I have been to over 35 countries and many countless returns so don't miss this resort. It is a beauty. if you need help when there see, See (yes that's his name) PS. Don't eat at the restaurant next to the bike rental place. We did and got sick from BAD TUNA at the end of our holiday.

Can anyone share free shuttle timings to Karon beach?
Answer from Marko K
4 contributions4 helpful votes
Depending which part of the beach You are going! Hotel shuttle drops You part of the beach closest to the hotel. If remembering right, it goes from the hotel on the hour, starting from 10am. But I can recommend walking (slowly walked within 15 mins) as beach is easily within a walking distance from the hotel. And as a bonus it is downhill. ☀️😂 During the walk You can drop into small markets and buy water etc needed at the beach or on your way back to hotel. My kids loved that walking and requested to walk everyday, for a week, to/from the beach. Returning afternoon on the hout until 4pm.

The only good thing about this hotel is big, it has 3 rooms...... Our stay from 4/2/2019 -7/2:2019 my name is lee chin hwa from malaysia .... The stuff is not friendly, Phunawa Resort charge airport taxi 1500bath, normal taxi charge 1000, due to communication barrel, we just ask for help to confirm for airport transport, but the stuff was reluctant to help, because hotel want to make the extra charges. The good thing about the hotel is big, ... due to the good comments we book this Phunawa Resort hotel. Hotel is Run down... the jacuzzi bath tube is spoiled. Some lights and Aircond is out of order....you will be always spending time for all these repairs work in room . .... The T5 lights are spoil. WiFi down... Power down !!!!!! without water supply. The lucky thing is I’m not in the mid of showering . We stay with exclusive room with rooftop pool..... but the pool is dirty until we complaint to clean up ... In order to say in, please prepare your own... toothbrush , international charges, etc. these are not provided. We have to argue for the toothbrush to brush teeth in the midnight or we have to walk down hill again to buy toothbrush in the midnight after a long travel day with kids. We stay in with children, 2km walk to night market in Patak Road is exhausted as it is located at up hill , walk under hot sun. The transport provided by Phunawa Resort is not in good schedule. Nothing is free, free no good , everything got to pay. Personally, I have doubt on the below justification for the rating?
