Quite cold at this height, bring extra layers. Stunning location and an excellent place for wildlife watching. We stayed 3 nights but 2 would have been enough as the Resplendent Quetzal is easy to see, you don't even need to pay for an expensive guided trip, the trip only goes a couple of hundred yards down the road anyway, bit...

This resort is much more beautiful than pictured. We drove to other eco lodges in the area, and most were mediocre, the Trogon Lodge is a shining star, and THE BEST in natural beauty. Nearby, are two small cafes, the Cafe Kahawa and Miriam's Quetzals cafe. They aren't close enough to walk to. The entire staff is exceptional, smiling, helpful...

I would have given this resort five stars as it is amazing. The only reason I dropped to four is the restaurant. The resort is beautiful. It offers many things to do. The gardens are amazing. The place is so well kept it is absolutely perfection. The staff goes so so far above and beyond to make your stay accommodating...

It is a true pleasure to learn from our visitors when they've enjoyed it so much. Of course it concerns me what you mention about our restaurant. We are very...

After driving for some miles on a fairly remote road, descending into a valley, we arrived at the destination--Trogon Lodge--and our jaws dropped. The setting is absolutely picture perfect, with gorgeous flowering bushes, rock gardens, gazebos, and an array of orange title roofed bungalows. The "Lodge" actually comprises a number of separate buildings including a reception/office, dining room, bar/recreation room,...

My first thought upon arriving at Trogon Lodge was heaven on earth! What a beautiful location. So green and lush with colorful flowers. Hummingbirds and birds everywhere! Our room #7 (right next to #8), was in the perfect location, just above the restaurant, didn't have a lot of walking uphill to do. And the WIFI from the restaurant leaked over...

I would rank this hotel as a 3.5, if you could give half stars. The setting is gorgeous and the temperatures were quite comfortable during the day. However, it gets chilly at night and early morning so take warm clothes with you. We were in room 22 and it was a hike to get to the room from the reception,...

Accommodation is in beautiful well kept gardens along the Savegre river, with walks to the waterfall clearly marked. Guides work hard to ensure that they find best spots for quetzal sightings and other birdlife. Food in the restaurant was the only option for dinner (this place is rural and a distance away from the other eating options in San Gerardo);...

Very beautiful place to stay, and well worth the journey. Our guides for a quetzal tour, Carlos, and his son, Carlos Jr., were excellent. Carlos is a superb naturalist who can produce a variety of crazy-good bird calls (the best of the several guides we employed on our visit to various places in Costa Rica this month). The Trogon Lodge...

Trogon Lodge has one of the best settings for a hotel I have ever seen. It's nestled within the value, surrounded by rainforest with a river running through it. This makes it a very relaxing place to stay with great onsite self guided trails and amazing birding - there are all types of hummingbirds around at all times and we...

The property is accessed by driving down a steep and snakey road. However, the setting of the property makes the drive more than worthwhile. The grounds are immaculately manicured and there is an extensive array of flowers, flowering shrubs, and other greenery. There is also a fish pond as well as little decks and seating areas. The cabins are nestled...
