It is very beautiful here but I have one reservation. If I stayed again I would prefer a superior room. I found the standard room claustrophobic (probably says more about me than the room) and when it rained for the best part of a day...More
Paraiso Quetzal Lodge has an authentic feel to it that is hard to find in other hotels. It could be the rustic yet charming wood cabins, the incredibly friendly and accommodating staff that treated us like family, or maybe just the incredible scenic beauty of...More
A lot was written so far in other reviews about the cold nights, the beautiful location and the spacious superiour bungalows with jacuzzi and small bathroonms and about the basic but good food. We agree with these statements! Our "excellent" must be seen in relation...More
My wife & I enjoyed a three visit recently at the Paraiso Quetzal Lodge, our first visit to this location. The location is wonderful - we had a great view from standard room #8 - the food was amazing, the quetzal tours interesting & fun...More
We felt like a coffee as we drove toward the Hotel Savegre and decided to stop at the Paraiso de Quetzal. What a great surprise! Next time we will stay here and not travel all the way down to the Hotel Savegre. Other Tico friends...More

Happy New Year to you as well. We were four adults traveling ages 48 to 66 and did not experience any headaches during our 2 day stay. We did feel the altitude when walking uphill from the cabins to the lodge feeling slightly more winded then normal but recovered in seconds and was not a big deal at all. We also live close to sea level and researched the topic prior to booking our stay. Enjoy you time there, it is an amazing place particularly for children. It can be quite cool up there, be sure to bring warm clothes.

Our cottage was wonderful, but steep down the hill. We travelled up and down only by 4WD car. About the crib I don't know. About Opal and the access I think I do know. If you are a good hiker the addition of a one year old will not be a problem or matter. It might be more about the grandpa...;-). A stroller will not work. I do too agree with the advice to get a cottage close to the main building. This is a family operated place and I am sure they do everything to make you feel comfortable.
