I stayed there for three nights with a friend and honestly did not want to leave. The hostel itself is very clean and beautiful and the staff is amazing. We had not done any preplanning for the trip and the people at our hostel took care of arranging all of our day trips. Also, the food is amazing!!!

I had a fantastic time at Essence Arenal! The staff was super friendly and the location is astounding. I arrived late but that was not a problem at all; the staff greeted me and showed me the room after which I was treated to a delicious dinner. The rooms are very clean and the staff makes a lot of effort...

There is an intimate charm in that place, centered around Mario the indeed excellent vegetarian chef. At first glance this hostel's food could be the main attraction (SUPERB comfy eats at buddy prices), but Nico the owner wants to gradually turn the place into a self sustainable accomodation, so the backyard is quite interesting too. Go sit under the "restaurant"...

This boutique style hostel was one of the highlights of my trip around CR. The english/spanish speaking manager picked us up at the bus stop in La Fortuna and was immediately very informative and charming. We drove past the overpriced luxury hotels to one of the only locations that offers the incredible up close view of both the lake and...

We started off our 2 weeks (last minute )vacation at Essence...Good thing, Kelly took great time to explain the inns and what to expect in Costa Rica. He draw us a map of the things to do and see. Couldn't ask for a better guide. The trail behind is full of Monkey's and even Toucans, guided by their beautiful dog...

Our family group of 7 people (ages 13 to 70) loved our stay at Essence Arenal. From the moment we first stepped out of our cars and looked around, we were in awe of the view of the Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal! Essence Arenal is at the top of a hill in El Castillo about 45 minutes along a...

This place is a STEAL for the price. Fantastic food and an even more incredible view! The rooms were basic but very comfortable (the bed was among the best, better than much more expensive places we stayed). There is a pool and a beautiful short walking trail near by. However, I do warn that this is far from La Fortuna...

We were positively surprised of our stay at the Essence Arenal. It was our lowest budget accommodation of our whole trip but definitely worth visiting it. First of all the view is amazing, you are in the middle of nowhere and thanks god far away from Fortuna town. And the second thing that made our stay there so special is...

Called them the day before we were to stay to confirm the reservation, they stated it was their last room and can we please arrive by 3 pm. We did a hike at Arenal that day and called them at 2:15 PM to let them know we would be a little late. They told us they made an error and...
