Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at the cottages for two days. The cottage was really nice. Very quiet, a real escape to the country. My wife and I were in the area to celebrate my Birthday with two very dear friends who live nearby in Shearwater. The town of Shearwater is very rural and very new! lots of new homes being built. We had a great stay at the cottage and would stay there again.
Recommended, even if a little expensive.

This was an overnight stay after disembarking from the Spirit of Tasmania. I had difficulty checking in as the ferry was late and reception closed. Signs on the reception door directing you to the main bar did not have any directions. It was dark and all doors were locked, eventually a lone traveller assisted me. This was the only negative. Once settled I found the cottage was very clean, comfortable and homely. Complementary tea, coffee and bickies were plentiful. Great shower and facilities, if you stayed longer and wished to cook, were very good. The room was very large and well appointed with a comfortable couch and four place dining table. Price was good - $90 for a lone traveller. Despite being on a main road it was quiet-just like the rest of Tassie. Recommended and was motorcycle friendly allowing my bike to be parked at the front door

Just arrived in Tassie, I felt like catching the boat back on the same night. We had a booking for 2 adults and 1 child, arrived late and after tracking down staff we found that we had no booking. This was despite the confirmation in my hand. I had booked on line and also spoken directly to the accomodation office directly to check our booking. Nothing was available but a young bar manager assured us that they would find something for us. Eventually a woman named Jan told me that I could try a place up the road as they may have some spare room. I headed off with verbal directions (despite asking for a sketch map).very dark and very tired we could not find the alternative. Most disappointing was the lack of concern for our family "who pays for this stuff up" I asked..... "You will have to take that up with the booking agency ". .......you would have to be kidding ......our small deposit lost....nowhere to sleep , and this was my problem to sort out. We headed off after 10pm to Launcetson ..no luck.....we slept in the car beside the road half way to Hobart. If the establishment is not resposible for their booking agency then DO NOT risk booking on line ......even phoning the establishment won't help. No refund has been received to date.

We were confused when we arrived here. We unloaded our baggage, found eventually the well hidden reception, only to find a notice telling us to go a couple of hundred metres to the resort hotel. It transpired that the owners had sold and recently left. This meant that when the wifi stopped working during our two night stay, reception at the resort hotel really could not have cared less

I think they have bought it to demolish this property and build timeshare here

Basically I reserved a owner managed room, and did not get that

i stayed in the cottages at the end of january.it was a strange system . your key was left in the door. not great security. the first night i stayed there it was pouring rain. i could hear dripping so i went to the bathroom to find water coming through the heating light. likely i didn't turn the light switch on. i alerted the phone number they had on a notice board the next day. the cereals they had in small boxes for breakfast were 7 months out of date really bad. the butters and milks weren't refrigerated and some had melted. it was pretty dirty. the carpet came from the ark and was in desperate need of replacing. lots of spiders definitely not a fan . the place needs a real shake up

We stayed in one of the cottages for 2 nights in January. The accommodation is located close to the main shopping area and not too far from the beach. The cottages are set back from the road.

There are 6 cottages and are very well maintained by the owners, who are helpful and friendly. Our room was large with a table & chairs, sofa and an LCD TV which can be viewed from the sofa or the bed. The facilities are excellent, there is a standard sized fridge, microwave, minioven with one stove top ring. All crockery and utensils are provided.

Everything in the room and bathroom are spotless, the bed is very comfortable and the surroundings very quiet so you can get an excellent nights sleep. There is no air con but the windows all open and let in plenty of breeze to keep things cool - not that the temperatures are too extreme in Tasmania anyway. There is an electric wall heater and electric bed blankets for the winter.

The cottage grounds are very well developed and well maintained. There is a communal covered barbeque area for the guests to use as well as laundry facilities.

The free in room wifi didn't work so well in our cottage as we were at the end of the block however, we could get a signal from the bbq area so would sit there to use it. Once connected the wifi was fast and reliable and there are no download limits.

All in all we are glad we stayed at the Shearwater cottages it's nice to have a modern, clean and comfortable room. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

Room was nice and comfortable, facilities were pretty good especially the pool for kids. The restaurant was hit and miss as far as consistency goes but prices were reasonable but the service needs improving no water offered and trying to remove plates before meals were finished.

This is a small motel now owned by the bigger resort. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. There was everything you need for a self contained unit. At $120 a night we thought this was good value. Very close to the beach (one street back) and opposite the shops.

We have just spent two nights at Shearwater Cottages and cannot find a fault with this little gem other than quite a firm bed, but thats a personal choice and there is no air conditioning. It has been very warm in Tasmania recently and a pedistal fan was put in the room, thats probably more comfortable than air con anyway.
The rooms are spotless and there is a perfect little bbq area surrounded by the lovely gardens, the condiments, paper towel and insect repellent is even supplied.
There is an IGA supermarket and a few cafe/take-aways over the road.
Shearwater Resort is next door.
