Less than 50 km from Trieste, on the old Ljubljana Postojna road, between the villages of Kalce and Planina lies the tiny village of Grčarevec. At its centre stands the small church of Saint Luke, and next to it the house of the Žigon family, where they have operated a country inn since 1980. The Žigon B&B sleeps up to 20 guests in 10 rooms, each with bath, TV and telephone.

I thoroughly recommend Hotel Zigon. The hospitality was absolutely superb. The owners were so friendly and extremely accommodating. We decided on the day that we wanted to eat at the Hotel and we're glad we did as we didn't see any other restaurants in the village. For only 10 Euros extra per person we had a lovely and very filling 3 course dinner. There was much more than we could eat so we asked if we could keep the rest for our packed lunches the next day, which they kindly accommodated. They also popped a couple of extras in for us for breakfast. Keeping on the theme of breakfast, there was a very good spread, including home made jam. We also enjoyed a good conversation with the son of the owner. I should really mention the rooms, shouldn't I?! They were very clean and comfortable. So I'd give this hotel 5 out of 5 without a doubt. You also receive a 10% discount with a student card. Also - if you're mad...we'd recommend an evening cycle to Predjama Castle - the ride was longer and steeper than we thought it would be, but it was so nice cycling back as the sun was going down and boy did we deserve that glass of wine at the end of the day!

I have been there with my girlfriend one night to visit postojnska jama, cause some friends recommended it to us. It's a very nice b&b and the owner are polite. The rooms are well cleaned. We paid 40 euro per person for half board. We had a hearty and good dinner.

We stayed three wonderful nights at Zigon Tourist Farm (Turisticna Kmetija Zigon) in April 2008. Zigon is situated in an absolutely beautiful location in Slovenia. It is just 30 minutes outside of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Although it is close to the city, it is in the mountains on the lovely river Unica. It is surrounded by gorgeous unspoiled natural beauty. Although it is called a tourist farm, it is really a small country inn, a pension. In Slovenia they call the bed and breakfast inns, which are in the countryside - tourist farms. Since it is right on one of the best fishing rivers, it is a very popular place for fishermen to stay during the fishing season. We were there before the season began, so were unable to enjoy the fishing. But it was so peaceful to walk around the beautiful green village of Grcarevec. It is a very charming pension, with the lovely small church of St. Luke right next door. Zigon was very clean and inviting. We were traveling with another couple, and we both loved our rooms. We were greeted by the owners who are the nicest people - Jozica, Milan, and Matjaz Zigon. Although Jozica speaks very little English, she communicated beautifully with us. She is such a sweet caring person. Her son, Matjaz, who works in Ljubljana, and was there in the mornings and evenings, was especially friendly and helpful in giving us information about Slovenia and suggestions for places to visit. We really enjoyed our conversations with him - it was like staying with family and friends!! The meals were outstanding. Milan is the chef and fixed us unbelievably delicious dinners of klobasa, vegetable strudel, idrijski zlikrofi ( like ravioli filled with cheese), chicken, pork, dumplings, shredded pasta and radish soups. And then wonderful potica bread and apple strudel for dessert!!! What wonderful Slovenian hospitality!! We spent one day in Ljubljana and in the country village of Ravnace with friends. What a lovely area to tour - the people are so friendly and warm in Slovenia. You always feel welcome wherever you go. Another day we went up to Lake Bled which is unbelievably beautiful with Bled Island in the middle. A "must-see"!!! Slovenia is a gorgeous country and we only wish that we could have stayed longer. We definitely needed more than three days. Slovenia was one of our favorite countries on our Central - Eastern European trip, and staying at the very charming Zigon Tourist Farm made it one of the highlights of our holiday. We would definitely stay there again - and hope to return soon!!
