On the foothills of Meteora, at the old square of Kastraki (called Mesochori by the villagers) you'll see a unique building which has stood there since 1845. The Ministry of Culture has pronounced it "protected". The building has recently been restored and it is ready to welcome you.It was refurbished with respect to the local architecture. The materials, stone and wood are the same as 160 years ago. A traditional guesthouse of the highest standards.

We had a fantastic stay at the Guesthouse Sotiriu. It’s a solidly built building with beautiful warm wood inside. The view from
Our room was awesome overlooking Kastraki. The hostess is an extremely kind lady and her helper as well is very friendly. They provide a hearty breakfast in the mornings, the cute little dining room has a homey feel about it- it’s overlooking the garden. They get fresh bread everyday which is super yummy. mrs. Voula gives great recommendations of the places of interest, restaurants and taxis. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here if we ever go back

This building has been very nicely restored and is very charming. We stayed in room 2 that had wood floors, walls, and ceiling along with a fireplace and stonework. The room had doors to both the foyer and directly outside although they were definitely for short people. The room was spacious with a very comfortable queen bed. Shower was nice. Pension is quiet as it is well off the main road. The pension is a bit difficult to find even with the directions on their webpage. You really need to look for a wooden sign before you enter the town pointing to a road going steeply to the right. Although the place is called Guesthouse Sotiriou, most of the signs to it and on the front of the building actually say something like Petrino (can't remember name now) so it was not very clear you were at the right place. Although the person who runs the place speaks English, she was only there about 5 minutes the entire stay. When we arrived, we found her elderly mother (who only speaks Greek), but she eventually tracked the owner down after several phone calls. Since no one was here most of the time, there was no one to answer questions (e.g., how does the satellite TV system work). Breakfast consisted of fried eggs, breads, cheese pies, and juice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and our room, but customer service could be improved.

I stayed at the "SOTIRIOU PENSION" with my wife and 2 children for a night (april 14, 2007). It is a small pension (5 rooms) in a recently restorated house at the quiet village of kastraki at the roots of the meteora rocks. I used my a car to go there but I was told that there is a bus every half hour from the city of kalambaka. The distance from Kalambaka is about 6 km. Since it is at the end of the village, there is plenty of parking place in front of the pension.

The rooms are very clean as well as everything in this pension. Every room has it's own character, but every piece of furniture gives the impression that you are in a Greek house 100 years ago. The view to meteora is excellent. The rooms offer everything a 4 stars hotel should offer (TV, Air Condition etc).

There is a dinning room where we ate the breakfast that was very good (fried & boiled eggs, Feta cheese, butter, honey, home made marmelade etc). The owners who are very friendly and helpfull, did not charged us for the snacks we ate in the afternoon or the water bottles we took from the refrigerator of our rooms. They also gave us a bottle of wine of their own production.

There is a 5 minutes walk to the tavernas at the center of the village. The price we paid was 100 Euros per room uring the High season period of Greek orthodox Easter.

I think it is an excellent choise or people who want to have a really quiet stay away from bars and night life.

Beautiful place and amazing setting. The room was comfortable and clean. The overall setting very rustic and the service very spotty. The breakfast very weak- only packaged stuff quite disappointing. The value for money was reasonable.

Before visiting the Meteora we booked 3 rooms (family room for 4 + triple room + double room). On booking we told the owner it is a family reunion. When we checked in we were shocked to realize that the owner, Mrs. Sotirio decided to move part of the family to another hotel near by and she didn't even feel that she mislead us. I made the reservation a month and a half before and a week before our arrival I called her to confirm it again, and not even one word were said about a problem with the booking. The experience was absurd and it seems that the owner doesn't really care. As was written in other review, she wasn't even there when we came, only her mother who doesn't speak a word in English and her son who seemed embraced of the situation and shout at her on the phone. She talked to me on the phone and even didn't apologize. She told me there isn't any problem and if we don't like it we can go.

Meanwhile we have the chance to see the rooms what was a disappointment by it self. They are different from the pictures we have viewed in the internet - Very small; the 2 rooms she offered us were in the street level. Most of the view is the street's cars or the neighbors but not the Meteora as promised. The lady owner wanted to squeeze 4 people in one small room with a bank bed so close to the double bed, one can hardly move in that room. (Of course she told me on the phone that the rooms are spacious…).

We were lucky that the Archontiko Mesohori hotel that is near by in Kastraki had available rooms. We got 3 renovated 2-room suits. All is new; TV in every room, fire-place, nice decoration, good breakfast and a very very nice and worm lady who took care of us. This was really compensation. We even decided to stay an extra night there.

We have just come back from a 10 days visit to Greece. All the other hotels and guesthouses were fantastic. We love the Greek people and actually it is our second time in 6 month in Greece. Stay away from this guesthouse unless you like an unreliable people

We had a wonderful time in Greece but this certainly wasn't one of them! The brochure was full of untruth's, starting with our arrival, there was a note on the door saying ring this number - she said my mother will let you in - I will come later. Her aged mother eventually let us in and then left, she was very nice. The owner only arrived when we phoned her again to ask about the heating and TV (which didn't work) and balcony and fireplace etc.(which didn't exist),
My sister and I were not the only people upset about the description of our so called "upstairs superior room" as another couple were also stating on the phone to her that this wasn't the room he had booked as it had no balcony etc. - they had to share the balcony with us - although only 2 people could fit on it.

We don't understand the reviews we've read as it wasn't our experience. My brother had booked us a superior room with balcony - the balcony wasn't with the room it was across the hall through a door. . The brochure states all rooms have individual balcony. Also the seats on the balcony were airconditioning units with wooden tops on them. The brochure also stated that all rooms had hand painted fireplaces. I asked where our fireplace was and the reply was "it was 85 deg yesterday" and I said yes but where is the fireplace - no reply. As for the breakfast - if you like little packs of uht milk instead of fresh - if you like cheap carton orange juice instead of fresh - then this is the place for you. Wooden carved beds were also missing - we didn't have one. The anatomical matresses? - This has to be the worst bed we slept in during our tour of Greece - the matress was so hard and you could feel the springs. Satellite TV - this wasn't working so we had to call her and she reluctantly came and said she didn't know what to do, we worked it out eventually. It was also a 14" throwback from the 1960s" . The so called mini bar was a fridge with one bottle of water and one carton of concentrated orange juice.

This lady didn't make herself available until the final morning of our 2 night stay when she came to collect her money. Unfortunately my brother had prepaid this room and if he hadn't we would have just walked away, to the small village where there are lots to choose from. All these places have magnificent views of the rocks, in fact even from Kalambaka town itself there are great views.
The owners attitude was not friendly or helpful until the very last day when she tried to redeem herself - it didn't work with us.

We would never recommend this place to anyone! - and can only say that the description in the brochure, internet etc., is one big lie!

I sent three emails to make sure our accommodation was booked as we had to drive 6 hours from Piraeus. We were to stay 3 days. Having driven in heavy rain, we were greeted by an elderly lady who told us the guesthouse was closed. She phoned the owner, who denied having received my emails, and refused to come and look at the copies I had. Worst travel experience of my life.

Finding this accommodation randomly on the internet, it has been proven our best choice. I strongly recommend to book a guest house at Kastraki, rather than kalampaka. This house is very traditional and we loved it for its simplistic presence. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are very small and you have to wait for a cozy and comfortable place, not something extraordinary.. It's offers a breathtaking view.

Guesthouse Sotiriou / Petrino is in a beautiful old building that has been renovated to a high standard with modern conveniences while keeping it's character.
Our room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and warm. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure, but the shower was slow to drain. Wifi was initially an issue but once the router had been reset worked without problem for the rest of our stay.
Breakfast is tasty, filling and high quality but a little plain - no eggs, tomatoes or cucumber.
Voula the owner is very helpful, but can come across as a bit direct. The lady serving the breakfast was very friendly. The very old lady who greets you at the door is lovely but speaks no English.
We didn't have a car which was no problem as we walk a lot, but it could be an issue for some.

The only even slightly stressful thing about visiting Guesthouse Sotiriou, was finding it, because several of the signs refer to it by another name ( 'Petrino...'?) so I wasnt sure if we had the right place at first. Basically you have to head up hill, up the windy road, out of Kalambaka, and after 2 corners, look out for the little tiny road going off and up to the right. Guesthouse Sotiriou (and Petrino) is signposted here (small green sign). After that, there are signs with the name Petrino, until you arrive at the square.
Upon arrival we were able to relax completely, with free tea/coffee made for us, the fire laid and ready to light, and beautiful soft bedding. The complementary wine was so lovely we insisted on paying for more of it before leaving. The mini bar (water/juice) were provided free, and the breaskfast was freshly prepared and covered a table for 8 (we were 2 adults and 2 children). We slept very well.

The lady was able to give us a detailed history of the house itself and information for our visits to the monasteries. The only thing I would have preferred would have been two small stools, so that we could sit next to the fire (instead of the one chair provided).

Very highly recommended.
