My boyfriend and I stayed at Spartacus House for two nights while exploring Meteora. We received a very warm and friendly welcome, and the hotel (both common areas and our room) was above and beyond what we expected. Perhaps the best thing of all though, was the staff. Every person we encountered at Spartacus House met us with a smile and gave us great advice for exploring the area. If I ever return to Meteora (there's a good chance--it's amazing), I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Spartacus House again.

This family-run hotel is in an excellent location right at the base of the majestic rocks of Meteora. Exceptionally clean, comfortable rooms with updated decor and all modern amenities. The breakfast is plentiful, fresh and delicious (more than you can eat) and served right to your table (unlike the generic, stale buffets we experienced at our other hotels). The perfect place to stay in Kastraki!!

This room was pretty good. Nothing to call home about, but it met all my needs. It had a nice bathroom and the staff were friendly. Keep in mind that it is a thirty minute walk uphill from Kalambaka. However, it was actually quite nice to stay outside the town as I felt that I got a more local experience.

I spent a couple of nights in June at this cosy family-run establishment in Kastaraki. I was given a large room with an amazing view of Meteora's extraordinary rock formations. I could have just sat on the balcony of my room for a whole day!

The family all speak some English & provide a good breakfast. The rooms are reasonably priced. I think I paid about 25 euros for a single (but they gave me a double for that price). I was very happy here!

I took the bus from Kalambaka to Kastaraki & then walked to the hotel (you can also take a cab for a few euros from Kalambaka). Next day, I caught the public bus--right in front of the hotel--which takes you to the topmost monastery. I then walked to the others without too much trouble (but it was hot in June and I had to leave out a couple because they were too far away to cover on foot).

I would recommend staying in Kastaraki instead of drab Kalambaka which has no charm & has been eaten away by tourism. Besides, you'll be right at the base of the rocks which explains the stupendous views. The town is small & has a rustic flavor while providing all the amenities you need.

Just take the bus back to Kalambaka when it's time to leave Meteora. It only takes 15-20 min. to get there from Kastaraki.

Pros: Magnificent view of Meteora from the rooms. Friendly, helpful staffs.
Cons: As it is located at Kastraki, it is quite a distance from the city center of Kalambaka. But the superb views are certainly worth the extra 5 euros to get here.

It's a family business pension with nice clean rooms and good value for money.
Friendly staff, quiet, good breakfast, very close to the meteors, everything in the room was new. You can see the meteors from the balcony. I recommend this place.

My 3 night stay at the start of December was wonderful. The hosts are lovely people, and their hotel is very nice. The room is ok and so are the beds. The balcony offers stunning views. The bathroom is more than big enough.

Breakfast was great and very filling. I was served eggs, bread, toasted ham and cheese sandwich, Greek yoghurt, glass of milk and biscuits. More than enough!

It was very nice to be able to relax by the roaring open fire in the evenings. I decided to walk to the hotel for the Train station, about a 20 to 30 minute walk. You can also walk to Kalabaka which is 20 to 25 minute walk each way. It is very quiet and peaceful place to stay.

Yes i would stay here again

Three women staying 3 nights in a triple room with only one bathroom is a little snug by any standard.

Our stay in this wonderful family run establishment that’s been around for over 35 years has been more than ideal. We got room #10, which is a corner unit with two balconies and with the most killer views. Yes, our breakfast on the balcony was most pleasant and it was a great way to begin our day. We had the hotel breakfast our first morning and it was pretty simple (3 thick slices of white bread, butter/jam, coffee/tea, grilled ham/cheese sandwiches, yogurt, garden grapes, and thin layer of omelet to share).

The rooms were simply furnished and very clean. We struggled with the hand held shower head because it wouldn’t stay put on the wall mount, which resulted in taking longer to get clean. If you like super stiff and scratchy towels, you’ll love it here. During our stay in September, it was unseasonably hot and thank goodness we had AC. Our experience with many hotels’ wifi across Greece has been spotty and unreliable, which has been frustrating.

The location was perfect. Close to everything and yet away from all the noise. The service was amazing. She offered to do all our laundry after we disclosed that there are no laundry facilities in all of Kalambaka/Kastraki. Bring enough clean clothes to last your stay or you’ll have to hand wash everything. She wouldn’t accept payment for the service, so we left her a big fat tip in our room on our last day. That way, she’ll have to accept our gratitude.

FYI:

As you’re walking down into town, avoid the first mini market on the right, which is operated by an elderly lady with white hair. She was super mean and yelled at us suddenly (“You leave, I don’t want your money!”) because we couldn’t decide on what to buy. She continued to yell at us in Greek as we were leaving. Geesh….talk about a cantankerous old fart.

Also, avoid the “All Time” café/restaurant on the right as you’re walking into town. DO NOT ORDER THE PIZZA. I ordered the pizza Margherita (cheese, tomato, basil), I had to pay extra .50 euros for the basil. It was super cheap, frozen, bland, sparse toppings, and disgusting. It tasted like he microwaved it. For 6.5 euros, it was extortion.

There are 2 doubles which has no view on Meteora, I think. But when you buy - buy it with a view. It is a best place with best view.
