It's been a couple months now that I stayed at Establo San Rafael but I still often think back of my time there. It is such a peaceful, beautiful, small family owned place. There's not heaps to do but time flies by and you just learn to live and forget everything around you. I learned so much about horses and... More

I spent two months doing the work study program at Establo San Rafael and was never happier in my whole life. I have missed it every single day since I left. It is very difficult to capture the magic of the farm in an internet review. The horses are incredibly lovely and each has such a unique and special personality.... More

We went to Establo San Rafael for a trail ride and I never imagined that we'd have such an incredible time! Brenda was so sweet and a joy to ride with. The property was beautiful, as were all their horses; they had such personalities! There were differing levels of riding experience, yet it was incredibly fun for all. The ride... More

My time at the farm has been the best time of my life. I have never felt happier. Friendly animals (horses), beautiful nature and of course amazing people. Brenda and her family all have such big hearts, and such love for each other and the animals. I came as a work study. The work was sometimes hard, but always rewarding... More

We felt so incredibly welcome and "at home" at Establo San Rafael! We spent two weeks there... It was a great experience and the cabins are super-comfortable and everything is beautifully arranged. If we ever have the possibilty to come back to Costa Rica, we'll definitely go to this place again!

I did a 3 hour ride with my daughter at Brenda's place between Christmas and New Year and we had a fantastic time; the trail and the horses were amazing and Brenda was a fantastic host and guide. We've been riding at many locations but have rarely seen so much love and caring for the horses as at san Rafael.... More

We were looking for a place to stay near Puriscal and are very glad we found Establo San Rafael. Brenda was easy to correspond with before our arrival and when we got to Puriscal, Abel met us in town to guide us down the road to their place (which was helpful in the dark!) The little cabin was cozy. Its... More

I stayed with Brenda and Abel the entire month of June. Brenda is the best teacher I've ever had and I learned so much from her. She takes so much time for her students and really goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable. I asked hundreds of questions and she always has an answer that would improve... More

I can't begin to describe how amazing our stay was at Establo San Rafael! Who knew there was such a paradise hidden in the Costa Rican jungle?! Brenda and her husband Abel were gracious hosts and made us feel right at home. Coming from the big city in Texas to this intimate ranch home made me appreciate the riches of... More

We spent a great morning at Establo San Rafael. Most of us were beginners, but we felt really in control of our horses. Our guide Brenda was very kind and welcoming and gave us a short but useful introduction to horseback riding. The lunch was fantastic! We will surely come back with our kids next time!

“lovely cabins, close to the horses!”

“I stayed in the farmhouse with the family and had access to wfi when it was available. The room is basic and the bathroom is shared but there is free access to the large communal living area and the best place is on the front porch with hamac and beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.”

“The Cabinas are gorgeousl: quaint and beautifully rustic. Very private, located a short walk up the hill from the main house, and a bit beyond the barn. If you want to stay somewhere you can cook up some meals of your own, there is another Casita you can stay in, between the house and the barn. It has an outside area with cooking facilities (stove, fridge, sink). But my personal favourites are the cabinas, and you can't go wrong with Abel's cooking!”
