Having moved to Royston approximately 2 years ago one of the few venues to be avoided was the Chequers due to its appalling reputation of football violence ! On walking past the aforementioned venue expecting it to be the original rather anti social establishment ! I was rather Somewhat pleasantly surprised to find it has turned into a welcoming pasta/authentic...

We are only reviewing the restaurant, not the hotel. Most locals know the Chequers as a pub but it is now under new management / ownership and has been transformed into an Italian restaurant. It fairly basic inside, no luxuries and hard chairs but the staff make you very welcome. Food is very acceptable, not as good as Italian restaurants...

Went for an impromptu lunch whilst killing some time in town. The food was fine and it was perfectly friendly although I wouldn't chose to go back or recommend. It's a bit spit and sawdust and although friendly the staff seem preoccupied whilst we were there. There are plenty of better places to eat in Royston.

We have stayed here twice now. The room, both times, is set above the pub looking out on the High Street. It is clean, good bed and small but functional shower room. Good breakfast and the staff are friendly.

When I called I only wanted one night but the lady on the phone said they don't have any rooms. My brother in law already checked so I knew they did. When I made this clear to her then she said they book minimum 2 nights only. Bad start, I should have known to avoid from here. When checked in...

We stayed at this pub with rooms as we were attending a family event at the hotel next door. I was very disappointed with the rooms although clean and very basic I would have at least expected a double bed in the double room booked and not a very small "double" we are not s large couple but I ended...

loo smelt of deep fat fryer, room shabby , tired. Owner seemed annoyed when reported that tv not working ' well it worked alright at the weekend' -wrong answer! Wifi not working also in the room. Lovely time away as planned, a little marred by pricey accommodation which lacked something.

Normal pub accommodation not bad but nothing special. Just clean enough. Old spring mattresses and cold rooms. Switch on heaters that trip really easily before the room is warm. Only 2 tea bags and no coffee with 2 small milks. We all know you need at least 2 in a cup. Stayed 2 nights and there was no towel change...

Stayed here for two nights on business. I'm really quite flexible about where I stay, but I'll be asking work to stop booking people here. Wish I'd checked Trip Advisor first. Pictures on the website are VERY misleading. The pub itself is an old-fashioned pub with lots of original features, a bit run-down, but I like that. I prefer that...

“Stay somewhere else if you can! If not, get one at the back of the pub, away from the road and pub entrance. NOT ROOM 3!”

“Rooms overlooking the main road may present a problem at the weekends : noise from pubs, and street lights seeping through the window blinds that didn't cover enough (not wide enough.) if you don't mind a TV in the rooms then that's okay, they had a wall TV which seemed great but I'm not a TV person. Biggest complaint was the kettle jug was far too tall for the tap, to gain water to make a cuppa; if the jug was shorter it would have made more sense.”
