Location The location is convenient for the station but is not too busy. You have some nice city views from the room window. Some areas nearby are known for the maid cafes. Room This is where the hotel lets itself down. The room itself is very spacious and provides two chairs, a table, small wardrobe and a desk. The decor...

This is an update. I stayed here five years' ago (and used to come here for breakfast regularly 25 years' ago!). It's a great location, clean and well maintained, but very old. This time I booked 'cos it was even cheaper than the tiny modern business hotel I usually use close by. And what a nice surprise! They've renovated the...

They allow smoking in the lobby, next to the elevator. As a non-smoker, I had to sit next to a cloud of smelly smoke while waiting for the lifts. The only plus is the breakfast, which is diverse and tasty!

My first night in Tokyo: arrived late to hotel after taking train to final stop, Ueno. (Leave station through Ikenchata Exit, turn left to Circle K Sunkus. Walk right. Park and pond are on right and hotel is on left.). Nice, clean lobby and cafe. One person at front desk spoke very good English. Other staff spoke little but were...

Facing and being right across from the beautiful Ueno Park the location makes it very pleasant for a morning stroll or jog plus it's only 4 mins walk from Ueno Station with many eateries abound nearby, Ameyoko market is also just mins away on foot. But it backs onto the alleys that are lined with numerous clubs and restaurants that...

The hotel is a bit old and shabby but very clean and the view we had (from room 807) over-looking Ueno park was worth it. We only stayed here one night before our trip home. Narita airport is very convenient from Ueno station and there were plenty of choices around for restaurants and shopping under the railroad tracks at nearby...

Ueno Park Side Hotel is just a short walk from the end of the Narita Skyway station co-located at Ueno station, so it is very convenient for getting to and from the airport and also for getting around Tokyo. A large lotus pond at Ueno Park is just across the street. We found the beds a little hard and the...

I travel to Tokyo regularly for cultural events held in the Ueno district. Though Tokyo offers many lovely facilities, Hotel Park Side stands out as a great value. The prices have always been reasonable by Tokyo standards. The rooms are nice. Not large or fancy, just right for an experienced traveler on a budget. Some staff are proficient in English,...

I stayed this hotel because Ueno is perfect to get to Narita. However the hotel was the weirdest ever. The shape of our room was weird, and the bathroom was not clean enough. The water pressure in the bathroom was so strong. The breakfast was fine, but not great. And front desk agent told me to leave the card key...

I would have rated it higher had it not been located right at a red-light area. So be warned if you are not comfortable walking through such a 'notorious' street (especially at night) to get to the hotel. Or use the hotel's north entrance that faces the Ueno Park instead. Definitely not a place to stay if you are travelling...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

“Choose a room on the upper floors with a view of the park and pond. Get the largest room you can afford. The rooms on the park side are all strangely planned to provide views. Bathrooms are quite large - ours had a separate room with a deep bathtub and a shower.”
