Tsukuba hotel is very well located in Ueno district, very near Inaricho subway station, good location where from to start exploring the city. Near by is Ueno park, national museum, Asakusa. Hotel is for budget stay, rooms are extremely small, no place for luggage, just bed, table with tv and tea pot, bathroom is with toilet and shower. Free wifi... More

Firstly you will find the smell is kinda strange. I could say it is smell of old Japanese building... Yes, it shows this hotel was very old and therefore it is cheap. Also it is nearby Shitamachi (downtown in direct translation, but the meaning is different), so you will feel and find other side of Japanese traditional culture. The location... More

Stayed at this hotel last month for a business trip. First, I will get the positives out the way, the staff were friendly and it was in a good location. Okay, the negatives for me were the incredibly tiny bathroom - I could barely sit on the toilet and I am barely 5 foot 10 tall. The room stunk of... More

A bad hotel, not so clean, with a little room and smell of wet. The building and the interior are old. Air conditioning works bad because the conditioner is very old.The price is quite cheap. The position and a very fast internet WiFi are the only two good things.

Fairly said that this hotel is quite old and shabby-looking but its cheap and only one minute walk to inaricho subway station. The western style room is small but clean with clean sheets, the bathroom is public bathroom and thankfully its clean though its only accessible from 7 am to 12 pm. They have wifi, couples of old pc on... More

We booked here at the last minute Y7,500 for a Twin room. Tired bedroom and bathroom with strong cigarette smells in the room and from the corridor. Location was quiet but although only 1 stop on the subway from Ueno it felt quite a soulless and bland area. Like another reviewer we were also harried out of our room by... More

I stayed here for 6 nights, so am fairly knowledgable about its operation. PROS: - Cheapest rate for a single-room w/bathroom near Ueno Station (7 minute walk or 1-subway stop). Price for a single in June 2012: 4400 yen. - Rooms have their own bathrooms (though they are of course a small modular Japanese one, which a non-Asian may have... More

I have stayed 8 days at this hotel. Very affordable prices for s single room, smoking allowed and very good location near Ueno railway and subway station. According to their website just an 8 minute walk from Ueno but that is nearly impossible. With luggage a 20 minute walk is more accurate. The room is a bit old but for... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
