My son and I stayed at Hotel New Ueno between 7-8th July. It is conveniently located, within 5 minutes walk of the Ueno Train Station. The room that we stayed in was compact, and tastefully furnished. We chose this hotel due to it's proximity to the Train Station, which was great for catching early trains. The room was not being...

Yes, I liked everything about it! The location is perfect, near a major metro/train station. The service is good, enough English to ask and get answers. The room was clean and the bathroom big enough, with a washlet seat toilet. All amenities I needed and more than I expected; in particular, I note: two pairs of (Japanese) slippers (double room),...

This modest establishment has many things going for it, starting with its location a few seconds' walk from the Ueno station with its array of subway stations. The staff are friendly and speak some English. There is a washer/drier available for Y300 though beware: the cycle takes three hours. Some sights are very close on foot or a few subway...

Pros: Very near Ueno Station, friendly staff, some of them speak a small amount of English, very accommodating staff, good breakfast, clean room. Cons: Dated hotel, my room smelled musty, no view from my room except of concrete walls - as in a concrete wall around the hotel, not the next hotel. I stayed here for one night. It is...

Its location is its only selling point. Extremely close to the Ueno station and only around 10 mins walk away from the airport skylines. With a Family Mart around the corner and a street market close by, there is nothing you should be worried about considering shopping. My only complaint is its very tiny room. We booked a Japanese style...

I needed a reasonably priced hotel near Ueno Station for a three-day trip to Japan with destinations along the Marunoichi metro line and the Tohoku Shinkansen line, flying out of Narita via the Keisei Skyliner express train service, with a lot of baggage to carry on each leg of my trip. There is no station closer to Ueno JR station...

We are filly of 3. We had a Japanese style room. It is rather small. Once they put on futons (mattress), we have no space any more for our luggages. May be it is normal in Tokyu. The hotel location is excellent! Next to the Ueno train station and the beautiful Ueno park. We were able to enjoy watching cherry...

On the whole it is close to Ueno station and is in a very clean area. Staff are polite and friendly and went out of their way to help us in everyway. They even agreed to keep our luggage 6 additional suitcases when we went to Kyoto. This helped us travel light to other places in Japan. It is always...

I stayed here for several days on business and found it extremely good. Jetlag had the better of me sadly at the time but the location is right across from Ueno station if you follow the Asakusa exit (nearby Central exit) so transport around the key areas of Tokyo are never far off. Pillow was a bit hard but that...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
