This ryokan is pretty good. I was in a single room when I stayed there. It is the only room next to the entrance so you do get to here people coming in and checking in. A couple checked in after 11pm which I find rather late. There is a curfew at 10pm but they give you a code to...

Very kind owners of this traditional ryokan in the heart of the Yanaka district. Great location Only concern is the thinness of the walls between rooms. One can hear any conversation from the direct neighbors, which can get really an issue with baby crying during the night... which happened to us. All the other guests were either from Europe or...

This lovely ryokan was staffed by very attentive, kind people who gave us our privacy. Excellent wifi, literature available on all attractions around the area. Very affordable compared to hotel prices, and we got a room for a family. We loved walking to Yanaka to see old-style Tokyo village life where we found many nice restaurants and friendly people. Best...

For a different experience we booked this family owned Ryokan for our holiday in Tokyo. The room we booked was very spacious and had its own ensuite, however some other rooms were without this facility and used shared shower and toilet. We had air-conditioning too which was very welcome as temperatures were in the high twenties during our stay. Sheets...

It is situated in 10 minutes from Skyliner, and was rather easy to find. Not far from it there are Ueno Zoo and Ueno Park. The room was clean, we had a teapot, tea, etc. We used the shared shower and toilet but everything was clean. That is rather nice and calm place to have rest after arriving to Japan.

My daughter and I spent four nights here as a unusual option for a Japanese experience. We were not disappointed. Friendly and helpful proprietors in a small guest house/ryokan. The room was a decent size for a capital city with room for two futons, a wardrobe, shelving and a small eating area. Beautiful crisp white linen changed daily! The aroma...

Two friends and I visited Japan for the first time in November of 2014 and decided to stay at a proper ryokan. We found Katsutaro Ryokan and decided to try it out. Our stay was an absolute delight. Granted we did not spend a lot of time in the actual ryokan as we merely slept and regrouped there. The staff...

The ryokan is located in a residential area, about 10-15 min walk from Ueno station (5 min taxi). It is run by a family who takes great care of guests. Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
