This is my third time in Tokyo and have always stayed at this hostel. It has the perfect atmosphere and the perfect staff to accommodate your stay. Located 1 minute away from the train station so very accessible. 4 beds per room so you don't feel over crowded which is pleasent

Very friendly hostel, very clean and has a lovely cosy common area. We had a double ensuite so can't comment on the other facilities but the double room was tidy and clean. Friendly staff, they have a washer and drier but a large enough room where you can hang your washed clothes up. It's extremely close to the temple, but... More

The most impressive aspect about this place is the exceptionally clean bathrooms. The common room is a kitchen, computer and "hangout" area all rolled into one. The staff are friendly and helpful. Security in the place is also good. Unfortunately, vibe in the place is more keep to yourself and not as social as ideally it could be.

First of all, the staff here are amazing! My luggage was lost before I arrived and the team took phone calls about it for days, always emailing me when there was news. They are extremely knowledgeable about the city and can help you make reservations for restaurants as well as give great tips. The hostel itself is very clean, the... More

Stayed for a couple of nights on first arriving in Tokyo. I had been sent detailed instructions from the hostel on how to find it starting from the airport (most useful, though I do recommend having a smartphone with maps at the ready to speed things up). The hostel is well situated, lots of restaurants nearby and places of interest.... More

The hostel was comfortable and clean overall. The bathroom was a bit small but since I'm relatively small it wasn't an issue. If you are any bigger than the average (Australian), then you might need to squeeze your way in. Having said that, couple of my friends who are bigger than me managed fine. The best bit was the staff... More

Asakusa is undoubtedly the best location for backpackers in Tokyo. It's close to train stations (not JR though, so buy a Tokyo subway pass!) and close to a major shrine as well. My wife and I had booked a 4 bed dorm but were upgraded to a private room on the 4th floor, and it's one of the most spacious... More

This hostel is not close to a JR station, so if you have the JR pass just be aware that you will need to purchase additional metro tickets to get close. However, it is in a very nice part of Tokyo, with attractions and restaurants, close to a Tokyo metro station. Not the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in, but... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
