We stayed here for 12 nights. The rooms are well maintained and very clean. Typical Japanese sized rooms so we knew what to expect and had no complaints. The rooms are amazingly quiet despite the fact there was a school group also staying at the hotel, we didn't hear anything. The only Cons of this hotel are that you use... More

Great location and price. I was there for a whole week and I have no complaints. Of course the room is small but is something normal for Tokyo standards. Please was really clean and all the personnel was very kind but be patient when talking to them in english. I will come back one day!

I stayed the hotel for 3 nights two weeks ago. The first impression was nice because its location is really near the JR Uguisudani Station (Even Metro Iriya Station is not far away). The staff was friendly and space of the room was fair enough for 2 persons to stay with. However, when I opened the door, musty odor assaulted... More

Candeo Hotel Ueno is in a very good location, only 5mins from Uguisudani JR Yamanote Line and a 15 minute walk to the Ueno area. Very easy to hop on a train and get to where you need to be. There is a large (and very cheap!) supermarket below the hotel and Family Mart/7-11 in easy walking distance. Check in... More

Who ever said that Tokyo is so prohibitive and that the cheapest rooms are far from city centers has not heard of Candeo in Ueno. It is so close to a train station, an easy fifteen minute walk to the major Ueno park, zoo, museums and train station and best of all, straddled by lots of small eateries and convenience... More

Candeo Hotel Ueno is good and compact hotel fo everyone who doesn't need all the fancy stuff. Location is good and the closest train stop is really near. Staff at the reception is really helpful and friendly and they want to help you with every kind of problems. Common language may be sometimes a problem but they will try their... More

I booked this using Avios points - like airmiles - and it was a bargain. Free movies, kettle, fridge, great toiletries, really really clean (no smell of cigarettes), staff are friendly. The TV is confusing - and there are no live English channels - but you do have free movies and drama series etc on demand on once you get... More

Candeo hotel Ueno park is close to JR line 9so can be noisy at night till trains run) and Tokyo Metro Hibiya line. So it has a good location. This part of Tokyo is nearby Akasuka but its most peaceful neighborhood. The hotel is small and very clean. The staff is polite and professional. The room size is small but... More

This hotel is unclean and run down. The walls are yellowing, and the carpet reads of smoke, even in non smoking rooms. The breakfast is horrid and the staff are completely unhelpful. Our room was not made up once in the week we were there and the staff were difficult to deal with. Oh. And if you're keen on wifi,... More

Classical business hotel, well located and a little more elegant that others hotels we got for similar price and breakfast was included, and quite good by the way. The problem was that our room was a smoking room, smelling cigarettes. I would have sent a better review if not, they did not warn us on booking, and it was not... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
